If Mapquest claims 32 hrs driving, what can I shave off?

About 200ish miles but it's worth it. I always make a pitstop at either mohegan sun or foxwoods (casinos) for quick a spin of the wheel.

I found mapquest times to be pretty close to actual for marginal speeding (10 over) and if you include stops for food and such. Food stop assumes you eat in restaurant, not in the car. If you're really trying to make it fast, you'll be able to shave off a good amount.
I did several trips from Detroit/Ann Arbor to LA, and the fastest total time-wise I was by myself. 52 hours total time, 37 hours of driving - 18 hours the first day, 19 hours the second.

But a guy with some experience, and a big bladder, and a little luck, and maybe a radar detector and/or the wisdom to watch for trucks with antennas changing speed,etc. Can average 10-15 over the limit easy. When is "the season", typically?
Anybody know some good "back-roads" thru Texas instead of staying on 10 that might be less patrolled and less traveled (but still not way off course)?

I was just quoting Jimmy Buffett for the h@ll of it. BUT, I think hurricane season is from late spring to around the first of Dec.
Although Texas state highways usually have as good a road surface as the iNterstate in some other states - they are still not gonna 'bypass' many towns and you won't be able to beat Interstate times. Exceptions might be - say - using 377 when NASCAR is racing at TMS - or to bypass severe road destru....er...CONstruction. New - little known law here now - if a cruiser (emergency vehicle) has its bubble gum machine on and is stopped on or beside the road, you must either, slow down to 20mph under the limit OR move one lane away. Kinda makes sense but it was little publicized and has been used for 'revenue enhancement'.

i did oakland to houston in 29hrs and that was in a pos penske rent a truck that had a speed limiter of 55mph... freakin big rigs were blowing by me all day.....i think i hit 57mph once or twice going down hill on hwy 10 in texas tho....
