The RE92's get such terrible reviews that I ordered Zero Nero M+S tires to replace them on my one month old GT limited. I'll save the RE92's in my basement and someday when I sell my car, I'll put them back on. The new owner will think he's getting a great deal by having new tires!

Hey slewis, let me know what you think of those Pirellis. Right now I can't decide between the Neros and the Extreme Contacts. I think the E/C's have the edge in the snow, but I wondered how loud the Pirellis were at speed.

I also ordered the Continental Extreme Contacts for my son's Saab the same time I ordered the Pirelli's for me. The Continental's will do better in the snow. Since he's only 16, and has front wheel drive instead of AWD, I wanted him to have the snow advantage of the Continental's. Since my car has the all wheel drive, I didn't think the slight difference in snow performance would make that much of a difference. I think the Pirelli's are better all around performance tires. But from what I've read, both tires are great and you can't go wrong with either.

throttle + slick road + car's direction currently changing = using up all of available traction = temporary loss of tail end of car.
Is you're AWD broken? No, but I'd reccomend some perf. driving courses if that scared you that badly.

Well this was over a year ago and someone brought this back up. But it has only happend once by accident and I figure its like how that blingblingblue guy said it hasnt rained in a long time at that area so the roads was more oiley and wet.
Usually when I drive fast I dont lose traction, I know I could but I just haven't really yet on accident. Times when I lose traction is when I do it on purpose.

It felt like fish tailing in my truck. I was only going like 20MPH too. I got almost 30k miles on my car and my friend blamed it on my tires being balled but when I checked it out it really wasn't. Another friend of mine guessed that the AWD broke (he doesnt know much about cars so yeah).
Does anyone know why this happend? I think it must have been a really slippery road. I dont want this to happen again! At least while i'm just doing a daily drive.

Edit- Well, if your tires were bald, then that is even worse. That surface is slippery. There are other factors too such as cold tires, hydroplaning, etc.. Don't think for a second that you are invincible just because you are in an AWD car. It'll help, but won't prevent.

thats where the most of you guys are mistaken. i sell subarus. and our training manual says that the AWD system allows you to take uturns at a maximum speed of 55mph in the rain. that means that you must have had a AWD failure.
i say donate your car, cut your losses and go buy a tiburon.

I repeat, AWD does not increase cornering speeds. Period.
Tires, suspension geometry, curb weight, downforce, and driver skill effect cornering speeds. Period.
AWD does how ever increase corner EXIT speed due to the fact that you can potentially apply more power to the cars wheels coming out of the apex due to the increased driven wheel traction.
So corner ENTRY speed is not effected while corner EXIT is. See how that works? The fact that the car is AWD doesnt effect how fast you can go into a U-Turn, why? Because the fact that you can accelerate 4 wheels instead of 2 doesnt effect the fact that if you go into a turn too fast you'll understeer right of the road.
There is NOTHING strange about what happend to this guy, if you think the fact that you can make an AWD car's tail step out using the throttle is strange you obviously have no to very little driving experience.
It's called power induced oversteer. Watch a WRC rally, they do it the whole damn time. He just happend to do it because he tipped into the throttle on a wet road while using all of his available traction to make a sharp u-turn causing the rear tires to break loose. It's fun, I do it on on-ramps ;-p
