I converted back to my roots
As of Friday, July 25 I no longer own a Subaru Impreza. I'm now the proud owner of a 20th ann. edition VW GTI (black magic pearl)#1305. I'm an old school VW tuner from the A1, A2 generation of the GTI, and I couldn't pass up on the 20th ann. edition. That car gives you too much for your dollar. In all fairness to the Impreza I test drove a WRX first, but in my opinion it didn't stack up with the 20th. So i will not be spending much time in these parts anymore, not that i posted much (I read alot). I will be hanging at vwvrtex under the user "1305gti"

I chose the 20th Ann. because the amount of car you get for the dollar: 18" O.Z.'s (michelin pilots), sport suspension (lowers the car about an 1.5"), stainless steal sport exhaust (sounds very mild), Reccro race seats (embroided with Reccaro & GTI), a 1.8T with a 6 speed (only GTI 1.8T with that option), black trimmed headlights (only model with them), Nice areo package(complments the suspension very well), Oh and there are limited editions that are numbered( only 4000 US and 200 Canadian, I got #1305). All that car for less than a bare bones WRX. I know there is no AWD, but I think it's worth the trade.

First, I got out the door for just under $24,000, Which is why I couln't pass it up.
Second, VW de-tunes the 1.8t so they can justify selling the VR6 for a couple of grand more (who would spend more money on a slower car?), so that means that it responds very well to chip mods. So I'm not so sure that the WRX will own my 20th when I start to "re-tune" it
As for mods right now I'm pretty satisfied with the 20th as is, but.... as always with anything I own I'm sure it will wear off real soon.
That being said I've been reading that VW installs the Diverter valve (equivilent to a blowoff vavle) backwards because its "loud" the normal, and more efficent way, so I'm going to paly with that this weekend. I read its a noticable improvment and best of all its FREE. also I'd like to find some smoked side markers, and side turn signal lenses to keep with the "BLACK" theme of the car, also a short shift is a must, the Audi TT linkage is significantly shorter then the 20th's stock set up, and its a direct bolt on that looks factory. There are a few after market options available as well.
Later for now,

I know what you mean about 1.8t's being de-tuned. A chip will do wonders for your car. But a WRX with an equal amount of money invested will still romp on your 1.8t. Sorry dude.

nice car love the rabbit symbol, definately cool. just a little info for you, I passed up the GTI cause, 1. my brother has worked as a VW tech for 5 years and makes bank (which means one of two things, either he works his *** off, or VW's break so much that he can sit back and reap the profits.) and 2. VW was the worst on a recent reliability test. yes it looks cool, and yes they have been around for a long time, but there is no way in hell you can make that 1.8 as fast as a rex unless you spend some serious cash. dont even get me started on the transmissions in those things...I thought the 5mt was bad! If I had to buy a GTI, it would be the VR6, its got *****, and will smoke the 1.8T. but gas mileage sucks.
I guess what I'm trying to say is for each his own, but comparing VW quality to subaru quality, there's no comparison. VW's are cute, thats why they sell. but for a German car company to produce automobiles that are less reliable than US manufacturers, thats pretty sad.

The 20th GTI is a cool car, they had a blue one on the subbie lot (VW dealer as well). I was even amazed to see vented rear brakes on it, which was a nice touch. Oh the interior is really nice. On the other side of the coin and I am not ragging on VW, in the service bay there were about 20 VWs and not a single subbie. Not to say that subbies don't break down, this POS 1986 GL-10 turbo (Grand Lemon times 10) put me in the poor house. I bought the thing used and I regret that purchase. I did love that car otherwise.
