I don't know if you can edit these things, but it seems like a better way to do this would be
Whatever they ask I'll pay!

This car might as well be a 22b is you think about it... other than the adjustable wing it has pretty much everything the 22b had... doesn't it? 22b was like $38k if you did the conversion for british pounds or yen, right? My facts are pretty sketchy...

I don't believe that...
it will be much more than the EVO since Subaru has to keep within a competetive range.
Also, putting about $5,000 worth of mods in a WRX doesn't seem too bad. Add another $5,000 and I am sure that you will compete with a slightly modded STi, if not better.
Of course, when and if an individual can get their hands on one, we shall see. Time will tell the true price. Personally, I would think that really serious buyers would buy the STi for two things...1) To brag. 2) To drive. Enjoy what you choose.
I still enjoy the old/new Wrx, as I am sure that those who have 2.5 RS's enjoy theirs.

Car Info: 1996 Subaru Impreza (outback)
One of the dealers I inquired to called me with an update today. I talked with him for a good half hour.
He said SOA is being VERY strict on orders, so dealers dont just say 30 people ordered on and have them sit on the lot (which they won't). So, if you place a deposit, it's non-refundable and you have to buy the car.
This, without a test drive and knowing the actual price?!?! WHatever!!!
He did say his SOA rep said 5-6k over the WRX and they are shooting for right around 30k.
If they go 33k they know they will lose a LOT of potential buyers.

Competetive comshemetetive. Considering They sold over 30,000 WRXs in 2002 alone (some at crazy high markup) I doubt Subaru would have any troube selling a 5000 at almost any price under $40k. There are still dealers asking $35k for WRX's with "factory upgrades" no where near the level of the STi.
I would love to be proven wrong, but I can't see the STi being $30k... even $32k seems aweful cheap to me....
Check out the attached image ... so for $355 extra for the STi you get 73 horsepower, a 6 speed, center diff control, brembos, nice steats, etc, etc, etc....
It doesn't add up, Subaru is going to have to make a lot of changes to their accessories for $32k work.

5000 clowns in a country with only a few billion people?
What do you think people are paying for a WRX with those options? I don't have one and never looked into buying one so I don't really know. MSRP is about $24000... How much extra for BBS 17s, STi suspension, STi body kit, and STi exhaust from the dealer?

I have a deposit on a EVO and you all know the features and specs..Its base is 28987. Is it really realistic to think that the STI will come with 300hp, DCCD...and all the other goodies for 30k whereas the EVO comes with less HP no AYC/ACD for 29k?? Just curious...

They are quite different cars, but for $35,000 you can have a 425HP Cobra Mustang. A lot of RWD car owners on other forums aren't interested in AWD 300HP for the price of their 400HP RWD cars. I am a RWD car owner who is interested, however. If I want a low coefficient of drag and 180MPH I'll buy a Z06 Corvette for $52,000. I don't highway or drag race and mainly drive under 80 on curvy, hilly, often rain, ice and/or snow covered roads. 4 doors is nice too. I have always been rally fan. I think it is great to see these cars(STi, EVO) coming here and the competition between automakers as well. Yee Haw..... This is my first post here.

Welcome.
I hear you on that point, everyone has the right to by whatever car they want. But as a rally enthusiaast and a New Englander im excited. For most of us it isnt just the 300 hp (thats cool though) its all the other options that come with it. Ive driven rwd and fwd before but it would take a real special car to get me to go back from AWD.

I have heard that the release here of the EVO will leave off some of the traction control systems offered elsewhere. Anybody here know if that is true, and what will be missing?

No active center differential, no active yaw control, no 6 speed.
I think that Mitsubishi is just testing the water in the US. This release from Subaru may force them to offer a "race" package with the left out goodies to compete with Subaru. Don't forget that these two companies have been big rivals in the WRC circuit since '92. With the young target audience that Mitsubishi is going for they can't let subaru get too far ahead of the game for too long.
As for it being 30K the dealer estimates are sounding more like the 34K range.
CLD_FSN I have to agree that the new Cobra is pretty kick *** (did a chevy fan just say that? - the Z06 is better though). However, it is for a completely different crowd. I still can't believe that people are making WRXs in to drag cars. I'll avoid the new Cobra on the highways, but get me in some turns (or in the rain/snow, or off road) and it'll be a different story. I absolutely decimated a couple of months back in the rain - the look on his face was classic. I also expect the STI to be taking thoes Cobra's in the autoX circuits. Different car- different purpose. It is sad when people look strictly at the HP numbers.
