How to get good gas mileage on WRX.
Okay, this may seem like a silly topic for WRX discussion, but hey. I'm sure not all of us want to burn rubber all the time... especially in a downtown setting ... well, okay... most of the time...
ANYways, I was wondering how one could save gas on a WRX. Like... where does one ideally shift? I was thinking it'd be before the turbo kicked in, but some say that it's at about 3000rpm, when the turbo starts to spool up.
Just curious, is all.

Turbo starts spooling up around 2800rpm but you wont feel the kick till 3000 under normal acceleration. If you want to avoid using it, upshift between 2500 and 2800rpm.
Bonkers.

the brochure reads 11.7/8.3L per 100km (or something like that) for city/highway mileage.
is this necessarily true? or is this only when you granny drive it?

27-28mpg sounds pretty respectable. most highway speeds I go about 65 tops anyways.
70-80mph will get the red and blue lights going here (in Vancouver, Canada), unless you take the more open highways, but I usually don't drive those... yet
how about city driving? the main issue would be turbo lag, right?

I am always amazed at those who claim 27-28 mpg. I get around 20-22 on the freeway! The absolute best I ever got was with the cruise set at 65, which yielded just under 24 mpg.
I'm good with it, though. I can take the train to work or ride my motorcycle - 45 mpg and runs the quarter in the mid 12's.
