how far below the "E" can you go
So just out of curiosity, does anyone know how far below the "E" the needle on the fuel gauge can go before you really are out of gas. I think the manual says the light comes on when you are at 12.5 gallons, and we have like a 15.5 gallon take or something. But what does that mean as far as needle position

Bad idea to test....running out of gas is not a good thing for your car.
I've pumped 15.2 gallons into my car....I was way out past the middle of the end of nowhere...and came over a hilltop and coasted down the hill to the pump...some assclown had given me wrong directions...on purpose, I'm sure...

thanks for the responses. yeah, i am aware of the problems associated with letting the tank get too low and didn't really want to find out for myself i was just curious cause it seems like i always fill up about 12.5 gallons when the light comes on and our tanks are suppose to be almost 16 gallons. i just wasn't sure that if you actually hit the "e" you were in deep doodoo or not.

Yeah listen to everyone here. If you risk screwing up the injectors or what not try it out with a gallon tank in the trunk. when you feel your car start to go stop and fill it up...that's the limit

wow. $20 for a tank of gas. i haven't seen that in.... i don't remember. how much is gas for you folks there? here, ours is up to $2.12/gal for 92 octane. that's cheap for us compared to $2.19/gal we were paying a few weeks back.

i'm not sure the validity on this but there has been talks bout it. Letting the gas go too low stresses the fuel pump so it to prolong it's life don't wait for it to get too low. Just one of them things i hear tossing it out to see if anyone else heard of it.
I do know onthe older dsm if you'r running low on gas and hit a turn hard enough you could starve the pump.
