You can't buy a Boost Monkey at this time. The fellow who invented the device has taken down his Boost Monkey page. He ran into production problems when it was first introduced and never recovered.
The use of a MBC (manual boost controller) on an otherwise stock WRX will, under certain circumstances, lead to a full boost at part throttle condition. This make the car feel really responsive but can lead to high exhaust gas temperatures due to running excessively lean at part throttle. The factory ECU doesn't go to boost mode rich until 55% throttle is reached. It won't compensate for the MBC until you mash the pedal past that point.
(from the Boost Monkey web page):
"The Boost Monkey gets a signal from the TPS [throttle position sensor] and depending on where it's set - engages boost. When boost is engaged, a signal is sent to the stock solenoid telling it to bleed off a percentage of air based on your boost setting. So, two dials - one for your boost, and one for throttle engagement. We tried to keep it as simple as possible. It's not a computer - monitoring boost levels so you could see some spiking like an MBC, and you can still tune it to give you full boost ALL the time. So unless it's tuned correctly, you still could get high EGT's. There will be some boost fluctuation based on outside air temperature, just like an MBC."
Vishnu Performance's EMI Adapter became the device of choice on cars with any MBC or some EBCs that allow full boost at part-throttle. It does what a Boost Monkey did, albeit at a higher retail price, but utilized a more sophisticated algorithm to interpret the throttle position and send a new signal to the ECU.
The Boost Monkey does not have any effect on fuel economy. The same thing applies to Vishnu's EMI Adapter.
