High speed runs bad 4 WRX
#16
I kind of mentioned the radar detector as a joke. At 130mph, you're as good as dead unless you're really lucky and get a early detection (plus good brakes!). I have a Cobra from the late 1990's. I think it ran me like $150 but WAY worth it. It has about a one mile range (open highway), 360 degree protection, and best of all, it talks so I don't have to look at the stupid thing every time to see what kind of radar it is. In the city, the false alarms are numerous and I don't suggest using it. For me on the highway, probably 1 out of three are false alarms...obviously it varies depending on which highway you're on and what type of "civilization" surrounds it. Conditions make a huge difference. If you use the open highway on a regular basis or even if you take road trips every so often, I highly recommend getting one. If you plan on using in the city, forget about it. Also, the talking mode is really a nice feature & I've had great experience with my Cobra and I feel naked without it on roadtrips. Remember though, it's no guarantee that you won't get a ticket.

Happy with my Cobra
I'm also really happy with my Cobra. I might have the same one as doubleU RX (mine talks too) and, compaired to all of the crummy Unidens I've had, I dont think it gives many false alarms in the city or on the highway. My ONLY gripe about it is in talking mode it will always say, "Warning, X (K, KA) alert" even if the cop is tagging me directly or if he's still a distance away. That makes it hard to tell if its a slight signal alert or a hard core "that cop has 3 teeth and a huge zit on his nose" alert. I got mine for $150 also and am very pleased with it.
