high pitched whistle
I got an uppipe put on not too long ago and was wondering if the noise I hear now is a leak. When I get on the gas and go into boost, there is a high pitched whistle that increases in pitch as the boost builds and car accelerates. OK, now the odd part. It goes away in a few minutes AND it doesnt matter if the car is hot or cold. I can drive all day, let the engine sit off for 5 minutes and drive again and the whistle is back and fades out until no more noise. There are no performance issues so far and the dealer said bring it in when I can. But my concern is if the turbo is failing and I have an uppipe and MBC they may not warranty. So I was hoping someone knows what this may be.

Well I've got a complete turbo-back exhaust (TurboXS) and when the car is cool the whistling sound the turbo makes seems to be louder than after the car has been running for a bit, the noise stays and fluctuates with the turbo so I know it's the turbo.
If it's the turbo sound then perhaps you can only hear it when the turbo is cool and when it heats up the noise just completely goes away?

I had the same problem. I got a whole new rxhaust cause I didn't feel like just replacing one part. So i replaced the darn thing. =)
Some WRX pulled up to me when I had that problem and wanted me to race him. I was like " ok sure, just give me a head start cause my car has no performance mods. (this was before the new exhaust) anyways, he kept trying to say that he KNOWS my car has a turbo cause he could hear my "blow off valve" (which was really the whistle of my stock exahust) To make a long story short, I called him stpid and turned onto another street cause I was tired of him bothering me. Now I have an Apex i N1 cat-back exhaust, that doesn't sound like a "BOV" lol dumb kid.
