damn im having the hardest time taking out the steering wheel!
ive already took out the single 17mm bolt thats holding the steering wheel in place. any advise on how to take out the stock steering wheel on a 2000 L?

 

Give this a try. Put the nut back on a few threads, then grab the wheel at 3 and 9:00 and wiggle it back and fourth. do it again at 12 a 6 give a good tug too. The nut will prevent it from smashing you in the face when it pops off. There are wheel pullers you may need to get one of those if it's really stuck. I got mine off though by persistance.
