IMO, bring it back to stock. It's more work, but I think you'll get more $$$ by selling the car stock and then selling the aftermarket parts here or on eBay.

Yup, you'll never get the money out of it that you put into it. Put it back to stock and sell parts. It will be more hassle but you'll get more of your money back.

the only way to get any of that mod money back is to put it back to stock. people pay more for stock cars than modified ones because they feel its in better condition. plus then you can go sell all your parts and make more money. only problem is the time it takes to pull everything off and sell it.

I say put it back to stock. By the way what do you have, may be interested in parts. Seriously, You might wnat to wait for car show weather. Go to the shows with the for sale sign in it. Don't list parts, just say serious offers only and give them your cell(if you have one). If your still at the show you could show them the car. I wouldn't let em drive it though unless they put some cash down. All of this assuming you can wait of course.

Never, ever sell your car on eBay. I've seen cars that would sell for $46k on the lot (used!) sell for 20k online. You will never get the price you are looking for.

People beat on sports cars, and everyone knows it. Whether it's true or not, I will not believe anyone that says they put $$ into improving performance and didn't beat on their car to a point. It's also a fact that boosting up the power shortens the life of various parts. There is also always the question of why someone is selling their car. In your case, you've put $35k into a car that is 2 years old and are selling it... Nothing but red flags to me. Hence, I'd pay LESS for a highly modified car than a bone stock car, all else being equal, and assume crap is going to break.

Now, consider the fact that I can buy a BRAND NEW '04 WRX for around $22k ($1,000+ BELOW dealer invoice) + tax/tag/title. So for me personally you would need to be in the $16k range AND have the car run and drive great AND have a mechanic give it a thorough inspection before I'd even consider it.

Please don't be insulted or take it personally. It's just a simple fact that for the most part, mod'ing cars, especially newer ones, lowers thier value. At best you can only hope to get stock value (with the occasional exception). Trust me, in the last 2 years I've modded then sold an LT-1 Trans Am, Turbo AWD Talon, Jeep Grand Cherokee (modded for offroad, not a street jeep), and currently drive a slightly modified Wrangler. I didn't get my mod money back on any of them, and doubt I could sell my Wrangler for anymore than a stocker would go for.

That is a good point, but. Let me answer that from another potential buyers standpoint. First, i know that if i buy a used wrx or any "sports car" for that matter wheather it's been modded or not it probably has been beaten just a little.Second, he may find a buyer that does not want to spend the energy modding his own car. Third, depending on the level of mods, there may be an a dvantage to buying this over a new wrx. If your going to mod anyway you don't care about a warranty and if the mileage was right, around 20k may be reasonable. It' all perspective. An 02' may be cheaper on insurance, and plates than an 04'. There are all kinds of variables. I think that if he takes it to a show. Where there are all kinds of people wishing they had a cooler car he may be able to sell it as is. I do agree that the moding money is gone but if he can get close to his atrget price things are always negoitable. Also, "right on" about the ebay thing. Good luck and i will check out you goodies. After typing this i just realized, Your going back to stock if your selling everything so i guess i wasted my time. I had a long day!
