goodbye Subaru, goodbye I-Club
Well it looks like my car is dead. My `98 RS had just recived a new radiator, new lights, basically the whole front end was replaced when I finally got it out of the shop after 6 aggrivating monthes. It also just recently hit 81,000 miles. Now I don't what exactly happend but the engine kept overheating. After returning it back to the body shop twice and replacing the coolant bottle they still don't know why it keeps overheating. So I took it to an honest to goodness shop down the street called America's Service Staion and paid them $50 to run a block test on it. It turns out the headers are warped and they are causing the coolant to evaporate into smoke, especially when I'm idleing. They told me I could replace the headers or replace the engine, both options being to costly for me to handle. Along with a list of other problems with the car; air conditioning, exhaust pipe crack, bent axles, broken tail lights and all sorts of painful dents and dings on the back pannel and the trunk, none of which are my fault (my cheap insurance doesn't cover collision) led me to the desision to get rid of the car. It's sad really, I love that car and had a blast driving it but I question Subaru integrity so I'm going to look into getting somthing else, somthing cheap that I can keep up that's also dependable. Maybe I'll get another MR2... well it's been fun. Goodbye I-Club.

Are you sure the heads are warped? While this is a possiblity a far more common problem on the 98 DOHC's is bad head gaskets. It has happened to a lot of them and you should be able to find a bunch of posts about it, here and at NASIOC.
Be sure to confirm the diagnosis before you give up on the car.
