Getting a GC8, now what to do?
Hi new here....errrr also new to the subaru family. After much debating with myself.....i am getting a 1998 2.5rs 5spd 2dr very shortly (no nissan 240 or mitsubishi dsm or mazda rx7 can change my mind now. subaru all the way). i wanted to ask if you guys could help me out on some questions and specific moddification for the car once i get it. I asked the same question on NASIOC but i guess being diverse in different forums could help out.
My main concern is the gas which from the fuel economy website says it get about 21-28 city and highway respectively. seems kinda retarded of me to worry about gas when im about to purchase a sporty coupe but the price for the car is something i cant turn down.
Does the car only take premuim gas? What would be the best things i should add to the car for better mileage (would it just be a better intake)? and lastly what tires would you guys recommend putting on the car that would be good for everyday driving (overheard the stock tires on 98 2.5rs are "horrible")
=) getting the car near the end of this month, test driving it this weekend... already have my eyes set on buying. just wanted to know if the stock 98 2.5rs makes the same brute/manly noises as the stock 04-05 wrx produces. the sound that has drawn me into loving impreza EVER more!
Thanks for any input.

this site will solve all your question problems. i go there for my car rs25.com i also have a gc. i have a 01 rs-t 4dr white. there are endless options for our cars. tho i would change out your headgasket first b/c the 98 is know to go bad. then you should be all good

The best thing you can do for gas mileage is to drive like an old lady. There are a few things that you can do that will help a little, but the best way to save fuel is to accelerate slowly and don'go too fast on the highway. All of the other fuel economy upgrades will become useless if you drive hard.

run away from *******. Those jokers will pretty much do nothing but insult you and try there best to convince you that they know every thing.
Best thing you can do for fuel economy is to get the thing as clean as possible.
Clean meaning as close to factory tuned as possible.
New plugs
new wires
new fuel filter
new air filter
Then unplug your battery for 30 seconds then plug it back in and baby it for a couple of weeks
granny shift
and don’t use your engine to slow you down.
Also proper tire inflation will save you about as much gass as not running your AC, pretty much $.25 per tank.
Enjoy, and you definitely made the right choice in body style!!
