FREE Subaru Car Corral at USGP in Indy-With POLICE ESCORT!!
For those of you who don't know, last year we had 29 cars show up in the infield for the USGP Car Corral. I'd like to shoot for 50 cars this year. They have us set up again for this year, and there are some huge improvements.
-Saturday AND Sunday now-FREE parking both days!!!
-Individual manufacturer’s WILL be separated this year (no stupid Ferrari's uglying up our space)
-Police escort from the Zoo, into the track (cool to have the cops ahead of you for a change)
-NEW INFO!!! Police escorted cruises around Indy on friday and Saturday nights, if someone wants to organize it.
-$10 all you can eat breakfast at the legion
-cars lined up in a display fashion, not just parking
-free again
I'm going to cut and paste the info I received from IMS. Here's the key info you need to know. I also highlighted some points in the info:
-Rental Cars will be parked away from the corral, but will still be free.
-You are allowed 1 parking pass for every 2 tickets you purchase through IMS.
-I AM NOT HANDLING THE PASSES, YOU MUST CALL IMS AT 1-800-822-INDY
-If you have a hard time getting passes, go ahead and complain here. I might be able to give you a hand.

***Car Club Car Corral Information Sheet***
Where is the Car Corral located?
Inside IMS, the Car Corral will be located near the golf course on the grass west of the lake and east of Hulman Boulevard (which is USGP's back straight for that weekend).
How will we access the Car Corral area? When will we have access?
Vehicles participating in the Car Corral may access the location through Gate 10 off of 30th Street. Proceed south on 30th St through Tunnel 10. Once through Tunnel 10, you will make the first left past the signage carousel onto Shaw Drive. Immediately on the right, past the viewing mound, will be an access road to the Car Corral.
Who is eligible?
Car Club members who have purchased tickets are eligible to participate in the Car Corral. You must have the proper parking placard as well as admission tickets for each person in your vehicle. Parking placards will be mailed to those car club members who have identified themselves to the IMS Ticket Office. If you have purchased tickets and are a car club member, but have not flagged your account as such, please call 800.822.INDY to do so.
Rental cars:
In addition, the Car Corral is a display area and not a parking lot. Car club members must be driving the brand of vehicle affiliated with their car club to gain access to the Car Corral. If you are a car club member and have the parking placard, but are driving a vehicle that is not represented within the Car Corral, you will be directed to the third turn public parking lot.
When is it available?
The Car Corral will be available on both Saturday, September 27th and Sunday, September 28th from Gates open until gates close. Because our grandstand guests will be able to access the Car Corral and meander through the vehicles, we would ask that you arrive as early as possible on Sunday (before 9:00 a.m.), in order to make this area safe for our guests. Once the race begins, you will be free to leave at your leisure. You will be required to have both a parking placard as well as tickets for the day’s activities for each person in your vehicle.
Will there be a police escort?
For those participating in Sunday’s Car Corral, there will be a police escort available. The escort will meet in the west parking lot of the Downtown Indianapolis Zoo. The escort will leave at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. If you are unable to make the police escort, you can also enter the Car Corral at your leisure through Tunnel 10.
Will there be a breakfast for the Car Corral participants?
A breakfast for all Car Corral members will be offered at the American Legion building on Georgetown Blvd across from Gate 6. The breakfast will be $10 per person payable at the American Legion building. Those interested in participating in the breakfast will be given a one-time special pass out coupon so that they can exit the facility and re-enter after the breakfast. The pass outs will be distributed as you enter the Car Corral display area. There is not a shuttle from the Car Corral to the breakfast or grandstand area. You may access the grandstands and breakfast by using the bridge on Hulman Boulevard and crossing under the track at Tunnel 6.

Bump for a great opportunity... I might be in, I live up in MI but I love F1 and am probably going to be driving down anyways. I went to the race in 2000 after 10 years of no F1 in the US and loved it but haven't been back since.
Q: So we just buy 2 tickets from the web or where ever and that qualifies us to park in the infield?

The only requirement is to buy through IMS. Call or buy online, and then contact that number, and they'll not that you are going to be with the Subaru Club Corral. I'd imagine they'll have passes going out as we get closer to race day.
You should make it back for this year. After year one, the weather has been perfect that weekend. And this year, we might even see some actual competition on the track.

Ya, I'm in but haven't bought the tix yet. My dad and girlfriend can't decide if their going yet or not
How many do you have so far and is there a deadline? Also, what's up with the Kart action? I might have to work but I'd love to do that too but forgot where I saw that info.
Thanks

Karting info. I'm not sure if we can still get in, as it's past the deadline. However, if you sign up, I'll find out. You'll be number 16 (out of 16) we need to secure it.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway. If you renew through them, all you have to do is call, and get passes to the corral. If you could, get two, even if you're only driving one car. I know some people who will need them, and have already purchased tickets outside of IMS.
Thanks! can't wait for it either. Only about a month to go!
Check out the karting too!!! Still don't have enough people.

The Karting sounds cool...used to race shifter carts...what a blast!
Will have to check with my peeps first though as we're all coming from different states and a few are flying in...

They only drive on less than 1/2 the oval and only through one turn. The rest is a road course set up through the infield. Not challenging to F1 drivers - would be to Nascar and IRL drivers for sure...But hell it's F1 and I only get to see them 2 times a year (Canada the other time)...
Those cars actually have more technology in them than the 80's fighter jets (i.e. F-14 through 16). I was raised on F1...

Oooh okay, I see it now. Not exactly Silverstone but better'n' four boring turns with three second straights I suppose.

Cool, how far back? I remember some from when I was a kid but I didn't really get into it till my teens - the Senna/Mansell era.
Haven't watched F1 regularly in several years though 'cos I don't have cable/satellite here. I miss F1 and a roast on Sunday afternoons.
