Car: 2001 2.5 RS with 40 000km.

I been using Mobile 1 synthetic oil. It looks like that my car consuming 1/2 litre per 5 000km. What's happening and what should I do? Thanks.


I been told to go back to normal oil, also been told that oil conumption is normal. Thanks.

 

Depending on the car, slight oil consumption can be normal, but it tends to be less so with synthetic. Check for leaks, or have a mechanic check for leaks. I know a number of people that had used dino oil for a long time, then got leaks when the switched to synthetic so they switched back. They blamed the leaks on the synthetic oil, but it didn't change the fact that they had bad seals.

 

improper break-in is one of the most common causes for oil consumption. did you get on the throttle a bit heavy when you got it? beings as how you're inside the warrenty (i think) you should have the dealer do a full check to be safe. but, make sure they test inside the engine completely. don't let'em half-*** it or you'll be the one to take it in the end.
