Driving through silt or very sandy areas where a rear drive or front drive cant

can the impreza do it? i just bought an 02 WagonRX and do a lot of camping and fishing. used to drive my 1992 civic hatch to do this stuff and it would occasionally get stuck but it was so light (2000 lbs) that it was very easy to get unstuck and rolling again.
the owners manual says that the impreza shouldn't really do this stuff and instead its for flatter surfaces. i just need to go over the occasional sandy hill, gravel pits, etc. which my little civic rarely had problems with. you guys think the subby will be able to with it's awd? will it be able to do even more extreme stuff? hehe. i tried a search but nada.
