Does Subaru own, or in partnership with, any other manufacturers?

Agreed. Still occasionally surprised.
You have to consider a few things with the WRX. When the WRX came out, it was supposed to be building on the rally heritage, which would explain its 2 liter, 4cyl displacement. Also, just because a certain engine has more displacement, that certainly doesn't make it better.
If the WRX was a draq racer only, then displacement would be great, as would be the useable torque and hp.
But don't forget that with extra displacement generally comes extra weight, and also the v6 might not fit in to the WRX. Either of these could cause modifications that would negatively affect the handling of the WRX.
The WRX and STi are such great cars, I don't know why you would want to chang them.

I guess I'm trying to say that I'm not blind to other vehicles. Maybe I just look for different things than you in a car. I think the WRX is an excellent car, and modifying it only makes it stronger. Putting a V6 in it would sort of tarnish the car for me - an H6 would be more appropriate, and would also keep more with the current Subaru line.
I hope that the GM partnership only brings Subaru style goodness to their other lines, which, in my opinion are SERIOUSLY lacking. The only good vehicles to come out of GM are the Vettes and CTS-V (which uses the LS6). I dislike all of their other models, including the Saabs (excluding the 9-2).

I think GM (Pontiac, Cadillac, a few other cars here and there) makes much better looking vehicles than Subaru (and some ugly crap as well), and I can only hope they have more influence on Subaru styling in the future (just leave the drive train to Subaru, or even better, let the Subaru drive train influence GM).
I'm sure the GTP is a good car for it's intended market, however I would be more inclined to check out the Nissan or Subaru offerings (the new Legacy will slaughter the GTP in its class) before considering a purchase from one of the "big 3".

Look at the Chevy SSR - can you say porky pig? I liked and wanted to buy the GMC Syclone when it first came out. It had little hauling capacity, but sleeper looks, a broad torque band (very effective for drag racing with an automatic), and the ability to put it to the ground.
They've destroyed the C6 Corvette's front end. If only Larry Shinoda were alive today.

Doh! A lot of people like it. Personally, I'll file it away in the ugly crap category.

The new Corvette doesnt have too many changes other than exterior ones. I think the new head lights will be much better, the pop up ones are the worst conceived invention ever. They are too prone to breakage.

From the pics I've seen, it's the best looking model since the C3's (ended in '82).

From what I saw, the '05 Legacy will have at most a 250hp/230ft-lbs engine. Doesn't sound GTP slaughtering to me, but again, who cares?

The legacy has a distinct advantage, which is a very low center of gravity and good lateral weight distribution.
But then again, bench-racing is for lame-os', the best way to find out is to pit one against the other
*no slaughtering in one way or another was implied

i will put 500lbs in my forester xt and see who has the most usable power the gpt or the xt! subaru has models with drive by wire and leather.
if you have not noticed subaru was not the ist boxer engine to be used in a car does vw, porche, nsu, or citiron ring any bells. oh lets not foget the chevy corvair. awd is also not a subaru invention. where subaru excells is in the packaging of the engine, drivetrain, handling, and comfort into an affordable car.

20% of Subaru was owned by Nissan before. That's why you see lots of Nissan parts on Subaru. If you see some switches, it has Nissan stamp on it. lol. Rear diff is from Nissan parts bin too.
When Nissan went near bankrupt and joined with Renault, they sold all the share of Subaru to cash some money in.
GM took over that 20% of share of Subaru.
but the link between Subaru and GM is not as strong as GM and SAAB or OPEL.
If you go to www.gm.com
SAAB and OPEL is listed along with Chevy or Pontiac, but Subaru, Suzuki, Isuzu, and FIat is listed as "GM network" and not listed on front page.
Subaru benefits from this alliance by splitting the cost of future technology development, such as fuel cell vehicle technology.
Subaru is too small to develop fuel cell vehicle by its own.
