I know this is a Subaru forum but, try to be a little more honest and un-biased with his question. The Evo and Sti are so close in performance and handling that it just comes down to price and aesthetics in making a final decision really.
But if your comparing a WRX to an Evo than I think it's more like comparing between night and day. The handling of a stock WRX is no where near the handling of a stock Evo. Sure the Evo is $4-6K more than the WRX but the parts that come with the Evo stock more then make up for the price difference. ie.
Aluminum body-panels
over 150 spot welds to stiffen the chasis
44 more horses
aluminum control arms
huge brembos
inverted struts
recaros
13:1 steering ratio etc...
So if your looking for a comparo between the Evo and the WRX, spend the extra bucks and definitely go for the Evo you won't regret it. But if you want an Sti, then it just pretty much comes down to looks.

Aside from the performance aspect though, every aspect of the cars is in the STi's favor. Better build quality, much better manufacturer rep, nicer interior materials... the whole bag. The Evo shines on the track, the STi on the street. And that, my friend is unbiased.
As for Evo vs. WRX, yeah. no contest. If they were priced the same, it would be different, but it's about 5k more for an Evo. And the things that the STi has in its favor are even more apparent in the standard WRX. It's far more refined.

hey.. did you guys see the newest issue of sports compact car? evoVIII vs. STi .. guess which car wins... SCC chooses the EVO over the STi. i was suprised. cause i think the STi should of won. anyways... they say the STi wins off the line. but the EVO out handles the STi... sometimes magazine dont make sense t o me... how much better can and EVO handle... and how much worse does the STi handle compared to the EVO..
i mean.. for god sakes the STi's handling can't be so much worse that it lost to the EVO. i still dont understand the magazine..
EVO: 0-60mph is 5.3 seconds. 1/4 13.4 secs
STi: 0-60mph is 4.9 seconds. 1/4 13.1
700ft.slalom speed for evo: 73.1 mph
700ft.slalom speed for STi: 70.7 mph
lap time for evo: 1:37.87
lap time for sti: 1:37.72
ok. yes these two cars are extremely close.. but at the end i see that the STi still wins in lap time and in speed. i would have chosen the STi. "it dont matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winnings winning." hehe that is a great quote to support my thesis statement. STi won by the inch and yet they chose the EVO... wtf..

i think the reason the evo out handles the sti by an "atom" " particle" "inch" "barely much" is because the STi has way more HP and larger engine. STi really should have been number 1 in sport compact car from the way i see it. now ima read sport compact car with less enthusiasm.
handling is very important. but i mean the STi has already passed that test. that line. it handles super. all you need is speed, and thats where the STi dominates.. dumb sports compact car magazine.. they really screwed up this time. bottom line.. the eVO handling isnt much better than the sti... its a tiny tiny inzy bitzy teeny weeny better and i dont see how they chose the EVO! stupid SCC!!! hehe jk not that stupid but stupid on this issue

On a smooth, high-speed racetrack, the Evo will post faster times. Based on that, SCC should choose the Evo. Besides, they DID do like 7 installments on project WRX... when was the last time you saw a Mitsu in that mag that wasn't from Japan?

My main concern is daily driveability. I live in the mountains of Southern California, but do often have to deal with traffic when I leave the mountain. I read this article and it made the impression on me that the Evo was more refined. That went against everything I had previously heard about the Evo and I was wondering what you guys thought about this.
Thanks in advance
