Considering WRX need info
I am considering purchasing the WRX and considering the Evolution as well. I've been reading up on both for the past couple of months and have been trying to make an informed decision. My main concern is daily driveability. I live in the mountains of Southern California, but do often have to deal with traffic when I leave the mountain. I read this article and it made the impression on me that the Evo was more refined. That went against everything I had previously heard about the Evo and I was wondering what you guys thought about this.
Thanks in advance

you must have been sleeping at the wheel or something. lol.
All the magazine articles I've read (more than 6 so far) have basically said the same thing: The subarus are WAY, WAY more refined, as well as powerful, but the evolutions have sharper handling with crappy quality interiors.
And if you don't believe me, just go out and test drive both.

If your main concern is daily driveability, then get the WRX. It will perform well in every area you need. Sure, the Evo may have more power and better handling, but I doubt that you'll be carving up the mountain passes at 80 mph. Plus for everyday situations, the Evo's suspension has been stated to be stiffer than ideal (but to those of us who are accustomed to lowered cars, it should be reasonably pleasant). Driving in traffic shouldn't be that bad. And it does get better gas mileage, which is always a plus.

I bought the WRX when it first came out in 2001 and have been satisfied (except for the evil clutch judder that was fixed in 03's) with it. It is my first subi (and will not be the last!) and I am impressed with it's durability, ease of handling and safety rating. The interior is spartan but well equipped and the seats are supportive on long trips. I would not purchase a Mitsibushi because IMO, they have a very poor record for longevity, just like the domestics. The only down-side to my subi are the worthless dealerships and service departments that I have dealt with. But that's just my $0.02's.

yeah if its a WRX not an Sti then definitely without a doubt get the Evo, there is no way you can make a w handle, perform and last and long as an evo for less money, BUT if you are talking about Evo vs STi well that is the question everyone asks...and that is up to you, they are both so close. if it was me i would go to the dealers of each in the area and see how you are treated cause that is my deciding factor. i would get an Evo just cause the Subaru dealers around me are a$$holes. if its opposite for you then get the STi. as far as comparable they are as even as you can get. you can argue either car equally.

personally i would take a wrx over an evo, and definitely an sti over any. the WRX is easy upgradable to be fasster than an evo, to me the brand subaru speaks for itself for great quality. its like sony vs. toshiba or any other brand. i would choose sony. yes the evo is way better in performance. but the WRX has great potential, and around $6,000 cheaper.
