Clutch dump ... ?
I went to check out a WRX (non STI) today and when my friend test drove it, he tried to launch it at 5,000 and sort of broke the car... after he did that there was a rattling noise and we lost 1st gear.

Simply put, a stock WRX doesn't like clutch drops at high rpm. It's abusive to the drivetrain since AWD provides so much traction compared with a front-drive or rear-drive vehicle with the same size tires. So instead of breaking the tires loose and getting a little burnout or a chirp, what might break instead is something in the drivetrain.
If you or your friend are looking for a car to do big smoky burnouts, look for a nice late model Z-28 Camaro or a late model Mustang GT. They've got gobs of torque and rear-wheel drive for instant gratification when you feel the need to impress the campus cheerleaders.

Simply here: You do not DUMP THE CLUTCH in an AWD car, it actually takes some skill to know where the clutch engages and disengages, and when u lanch u have to play with that border on an awd car..

Do you think it is a good idea to "dump" a clutch before a car is broken in? Or was it a used one? Was the seller/dealer rep in the car with you when this was going on?
