Close but no cigar
watsup guys. my names chris im 18 and i read i-club daily. i was planning on getting a 03 WRX but decided to wait a a couple more years till i get one because of school. Not only that but my friend talked me out of it. he made a vary valid point. he told me that i could get a car now and it would be cool but why not wait a lil longer till i become older and have more cash and build my credit up. also im not sure if im going to be working while i go to school so that leads to payment issues. i was going to go look at one this friday and most likely get one but he made me think of future considerations. it hurts so bad cause ive been literally dreaming about this car for over a year and when the time came to get one im not going to. for now im going to trade in my automatic prelude for a 96 s10 so i can practice driving stick. thx for listening to me sob. laterZ

I think you are making a very good decision to wait on getting a WRX, or any new car, until you are a little older. The last thing you want to do is buy a $24k car, and get yourself into a huge financial hole before you even finish school. It's much easier to have a good credit rating than a bad rating, and if you can't make payments and they have to repo your car, that looks very bad. Don't tie yourself down to a car just yet, get some schooling and a good job, then you can go ahead and get yourself a brand-spanking-new WRX in whatever color your little heart desires. Listen to your friend, think of your future, it's great advice.
P.S. I didn't get my first new car (my 2000 2.5RS) until I was 26, and up till then, my newest car was the 91 Camaro I trade in on the Subaru. Believe me, once you start making huge car payments, you'll remember back fondly when you only had to pay $100/mo.

Car Info: Not a WRX any more . . .
Probably a good move, except the s10 part. What about something a little more reliable? You'll be paying an arm and a leg to keep that thing running, money you could be saving. Consumer Reports says the s10 has worse than average reliability for almost every year they list, and the 96 gets the lowest possible marks in many categories. (Something like a Toyota Tacoma gets the highest possible marks in almost every category.) Go get a Consumer Reports used car guide before making any leaps!

thx for the insight on the s10. i no the prelude is more reliable but i hate it cause it has no head room and its automatic. i hate driving auto. the tacmo never came to mind but sounds alot better than the s10. thx again. laterZ

buy a used tacoma reg cab 5 spd...add a 75 shot of nitrous and you'll have as much fun at the 1/4 as a subie, probably even whoop on a few.
my brother beat his 01 taco into the ground with TRD supercharger and 50 shot. he put about 50,000 miles on it, racing it at least twice a week and nothing ever broke (except a few clutches) good choice on the wait. I waited till I was 23 till I bought mine (5 months ago) and believe me I had a car payment ($300 per month) while I was at college, and it wasnt fun. I ended up being at college part time and work full time.
BTW on the S-10 topic. I had a 98 and ran it into the ground, nothing broke and it got me everywhere, I even got $6000 trade in for it after 3 years and it only cost $9999 brand new. I've been driving manual cars/trucks for 7 years on and off, and I still cant master the wrx 5spd.
