Rear O2 Sensor Failure
My rear O2 sensor is bad. The dealer ordered a new one. Should be fixed in two weeks.

Do you have an '04? The guy at the dealership told me that a number of replacement rear O2 sensors were failing in the previous model years. I guess there is a history of O2 sensor problems with the WRX.

straight pipe
yea, my friend had a 2000 type R and when he got his straight pipe, his chek engine light came on due to his o2 sensors, so if i got a straight pipe on my WRX im sure the check engine light would go on, what to do to make the CEL not go on and still use the straight pipe effectively?
by the way, wat is the point of the o2 sensors? is it to maintain pollution?

Mine is getting replaced on Monday. Interesting thing is, the CEL hasn't come on for 600 miles since the problem was diagnosed.

Regarding your Oxygen Sensors. Generally the front Sensor gives feedback to the PCM for fuel control and the rear one monitors CAT efficiency. Usually once the light comes on you are in a backup or limp mode, thus not getting full performance. Not aware of any work-around myself.

i had a similar problem with my 02 wrx dealer said was loose gas cap...wasnt.....he tried to tell me that the clicking noise when you put on a gas cap didnt mean any thing( really clicking noise is a torque limiter) anyway it turned out to be a small fuel leak..got it fixed after 3 trips to dealer and no problems since
