I don't see the argument for the Forester XT now. The WRX wagon (for '06) has better brakes, same engine, nicer interior (IMO) better steering, etc.

I bought an 06WRX and have looked at some roof racks. They will leave little dents if it is tightened to much.
Overall, once you mod the wagon or the sedan they are very comparable and both will be awesome to drive. I dont regret buying the sedan, but I do a lot of outdoor activities and I think the wagon is set up better for that.
Just get some stiffeners for the rear end to help with handling and youll be good.

BIG reasons to get a wagon imo -- Wagon rear seats fold down, sedan does not. Wagon comes with roof rails, putting on a rack is cake. Ive put in a 32" sony TV, Lazyboy, etc with no hassle. Sleeper.

There are only a few (if any) downsides to a wagon. Some aftermarket stuff might be hard to find, like front lips, body kits. Ummmm....I think thats all Wagons rock! Only buy a sedan if you get the STi. As far as the wider track and 80lb difference....who cares! Like yousaid you wont be autoxing so it doesnt matter.

The AGX's are not wagon specific. You have to mix match front and rears from the gc8 or something, Im not 100% sure what combo works, but it can be done.

I have the kyb-gr2 (wagon specific) and prodrives on my 02 wagon

Oh yeah, if you want wider wheels/tires and lowered ride you might have to roll the fenders.

I had a 02 wrx sedan when it first came out. Latter I got a 04 wrx wagon.
I prefer the wagon. If they ever sell a sti wagon I will be the first inline.

racerx7... did you notice any shortcomings of the wagon vs the sedan? stock vs stock? performance wise?

center of gravity

The wagon has a higher center of gravity so you can't take the offramps as fast as in a coupe. I'm sure you can lower the car and get stiffer suspension parts for a couple thousand $'s. But Stock, the wagon tends to throw the backend when turning a corner at higher speeds.

Sorry, for some reason I did not get a email to your reply. I did get a email
for the person that posted on 6/13.

I think they also made some small changes from 2002 to 2004. So, I don't
know how much of the difference is the year to year vs wagon vs sedan.
Both cars suck with factory 205/55/16 tires on them. I have read you can
but larger tires on the sedan. I know the wagon you can put 225/45/17
all around. With four guys in the car ( say at least 180lbs each) driving very
fast through the turns and then hit bump the rear tires will rub. I have put
over 500lbs in the back and drove normal through turn and it never, ever rubbed.

Too me the wagon does feel more top heavy in the moutains when driven very hard.
The sedan is faster. ( I don't know if that is because of the weight or because
maybe the 02 are faster than the 04). Even with all that said I woudl still
chose a wagon. It is just sooooo much more usefull. If you start tracking
your car, it is nice to bring tools, 10x10 canopy, 4 sets of sticky tires.

If your buying used I would stay away from the 02. At least with my 02 in the
morning the clutch made this really wierd noise and it grapped funny. I told
the dealership ( i bought new from them) many times they never fixed it.
My 2004 wrx wagon I have 50,000 miles on now, zero problems.

I think the Subydude summed it up best.

http://subydude.com/phpBB2/viewtopic...427fecbb1cbc97

It was 650lbs I had in the back of my car.

Awesome Post Racerx7! You make good points.... Thanks for the links as well, checked those out... One big factor of mine was that I really didnt want loss of performance during cornering... and I dunno.. maybe acceleration? But perhaps that 1/4 of a second 0-60 difference would still be a good compromise...

Oh and I wont be getting any used one... And i know about the whole clutch shudder deal, sucks, couple friends of mine have to deal with it... Thanks again for the examples/suggestions!

Itll most likely be an 06 wagon...

I wish I could get a 2006 wrx wagon. I just can not afford to take such a big hit again on the deprecation on a car that is only two years old.

I don’t think you will notice any loss of corning (as far as fun is concerned). If you time it and the difference between first place and second place is half a second on a two minute road course and that cost you a thousand dollars then you might be wishing you bought the sedan instead. If it is just for you to have fun the wagon is better track car just for the simple fact that you can bring 10ft by 10ft canopy. It is nice to sit in the shade

Now if you said what is better a STI or wrx wagon, I would say STI!!!!

If you start tracking your the second mod (after tires/rims) should
be this I bought this from costco. I think they by far have the best
return policy.

I had a 2000 Subaru Outback for 4 years. I loved it. But I ended up wanting more power. And I really missed having a trunk. Dont get me wrong, the wagon had a lot of advantages. Hauling, roof rails, folding seats. But they are definately heavier and not setup for high speeds. They can hang just not perform like a sedan. My outback was a solid car, but my 05 STi is a whole new world.

It basically comes down to what you need it for the most..........

But I got to say about what everybody is posting about the sleeper thing. Its reeeeally true. Not one look from s cop in my outback. Everyday in the STi. Big attention difference.

Haha costco DOES have the best return policy, haha I wish they sold cars ...

I'm not to worried.. Id just hate to see a WRX sedan kick the crap out of a WRX wagon, same year, same power... It would really suck if the wagons are slower... its supposed to be the same drivetrain... track is just about an inch narrower fr/rr, so i dunno
