Quick response:
Transmissions and clutches can be somewhat troublesome, but most are OK. In that price range buy for condition, not necessarily low miles. Try to get a stock one, not one that's been modified. Wagons are a little noisier in the interior due to the open cabin.

hehe ALL Subarus are AWD since I beleive the mid 90s or 80s. Yea Im sure you can fin a WRX 02 for about $15 grand if you look hard enough but it will have a good amount of miles on it. The engine is strong but the Tranny and clucth is one of the weak points in the WRX. I I just bought my 04 WRX Wagon and am pleased.
Good Luck finding one

vova i havea silver sedan MY02 like in photo
God i luv this car i got like5000 miles on it becuse its like my weekend car. I baby the hell out of it until i take it outf or al il run. I got the automatic becuase of the wife but not a single problem at all. SInce no 5 speed no shuddering or problems going into gear. I fell in luv with teh wrx teh first time i saw the commerical of the rally car streaking along a dirt road and then they cut to the production car. I was like dam that is hot. I researched about the wrx and my wife said go test drive oneAfter that i was hooked for life. IT never dissapoints me at all. i live in new england so teh winters are tough and never aproblem . ITs practical yet fun at the same time. There was an article in my local newspaper about the MY04 wrx and the title of the articles says"subaru wrx makes chores fun". I hate to run errands but now if my wife asks me to go out, now its like ok like she is really twisting my arm to take her out of the garage.

All subes are kickass in the snow. My old Legacy could billygoat up any snowy road, even with crappy 185-70-14 freeway tires. If you put big, hugeass tires on it the snow performance will suffer, but stick to the 205-55-16 standard size and you'll be stoked.
At the winter cabin in Tahoe, there are only two kinds of cars on the road after snowstorms: 4wd trucks and Subarus.

Naw, here's whatcha do. You keep the stock rims and tires for your winter set. You could even buy dedicated snow tires if you want. For summer, get a killer set of 17 X 7 or 17 X 7.5s or 18 X 7.5s with sticky tires. Lots of WRX owners have two sets of wheels, one for winter and one for summer. I do.

the wrx is too new to tell but..
With subarus track record for reliablitity i dont see why not. IF you do the maintenance on it it should last along time. Turbo chargers are harder on an engine than say a naturally aspirated but i dont see them kicking the bucket any time soon

Hacked up exhaust, clutch shudder, no records, signs of a wreck (have a mechanic check it out), do a carfax on the VIN number (www.carfax.com).

tranny on 5speeds is the only major thing i know of
the windows squeek some times but that can be fixed . The MY 03 has a lighted ring around the ignition. MY car doesnt and itsa pain in the ### at night the dome turns off to soon. LEg room in the back is very tight if that is an issue but for the most part i am very pleased with my car and wont give it up for the world:banana:
