bumped the wrx, need some advice
I neglected to take into account how wet and slick the roads were the other morning and ended up knocking the wrx into a small fence. I wasn't travelling terribly quickly but the airbags deployed (horray for instant debt and a broken windshield)... the impact occured a little to the right of center and mangled up the front bumper and grill rather good, as well as bending the hood some. These parts all obviously need to be replaced but since I am paying out of pocket for the repairs I want to make sure I'm not being reamed (collision coverage jacked my insurance up waaaay too much and prior to this little faux pas I had never even come close to being in an at-fault accident). The shop originally quoted me around $4K without taking into account airbags/windshield... they're telling me now that the right front frame rail is bent (plausible) but that apart from the $150 or so for the part, it's going to require removing the engine to install and thus 10 hours of labor... having never carefully explored that part of the car, can someone tell me if this is accurate, or is it possible to install that frame rail without removing the engine?
Also, having not taken a good look at what the airbags did (I was too mad at myself and had the car taken to the shop immediately) can someone tell me what my options are in the way of /not/ having airbags reinstalled. I mean, is it possible to repair the dash/wheel without it appearing as though the bags ever deployed.
Thanks...

You should really look in to how much your rates will rise before dropping $4k out of pocket.
I recently wrecked my WRX and the damage came out to $9465!!!! It was ruled as my fault, but my insurance rates will only increase by $600 a year until the accident falls off, which is 3 years, meaning I will only pay $1800 extra on my rates. In addition, I'll be paying that $1800 in 24 installments as opposed to all at once.
Think about that before dropping $4k in one hit.

sorry to hear that, you must have been going quickly to lose traction and hit a fence on a wet road and do all that damage.
it does not take 10 hours of labor to take out the engine and put it back in.
and the airbag thing, do NOT fix your car and not replace the airbags, it is illegal to not replace the airbags or drive without them.
tip for future, always have colission, even if you have to have a $1000 deductable. its worth that extra money in the long run, as you are now probably seeing
