BOV, Turbo Timer and exhaust Questions
Hey,
Took the WRX for a test drive today and compared to my TT I am very impressed. Gearing differences are obvious but the car feels very solid and bld quality was better than expected. Feels like the WRX is as fast but torque is down a bit feom my TT. Just a butt dyno feel.
My Qs.
1.) Bypass/diverter valve-is OEM a piston or Diaphram design? The TT comes OEM w.a Bosch POS. Does the Subi OEM BOV have the same rep?
2.) Does the Wrx have a turbo timer
3.) The Subi exhaust that they can install at the dealer, is it worth anything? I found pics of it alone on the Subi website any pics on the car?
4.) Lastly dealer told me all parts they install are warrantied and do not affect warranty. Is this true esp on the SS and exhaust?

1) Stock BOV is a really good product and you do not need to change it out till producing lots more power. Most people chnage it out for two reasons. the 1st being that they want something pretty under the hood and the 2nd is for the sound of the BOV.
2) No turbo timer here is Subary's viewpoint:
(02) 2002MY WRX TURBO COOL DOWN PROCEDURE
FHI’s position regarding this is that it is not necessary to perform a “cool down/idling”
procedure, as was recommended with past turbo models. Our current 2.0L turbo engine has a
far greater cooling capacity and, coupled with technology advances, makes this practice no
longer necessary. This explains why information about a cool down is not included in the
2002MY Impreza Owner’s Manual.
The heat contained in the turbo charger, will begin to vaporize the coolant at the turbo charger
after the engine is stopped. This hot vapor will then enter the coolant reservoir tank, which is
the highest point of the coolant system. At the same time the vapor exits the turbo charger,
coolant supplied from the right bank cylinder head flows into the turbo. This action cools the
turbo charger down. This process will continue until the vaporizing action in the turbo charger
has stopped or cooled down.
3+4) the exhaust is good, heard it is pricey, good aftermarkets stuff out there too. Some dealer will put the aftermarket stuff on that they sell and will not warranty some will.
