bought a rs but everyones telling me i wasted my money
i baught a brand new 2005 impreza 2.5rs in november. i love my car alot!!! but i've talked to so many sti and wrx owners that say i wasted my money and should have spent more and baught at least a wrx.
i wanted to but my reasons for buying the rs is i'm 20 and my insurance rates screw me over, so its cheaper for me that way. plus i got the car with 30 miles on it for 17000 out the door which in my mind was a good deal.
i put an injen intake and apexi n1 exhaust on it sounds good, but i'm i wasting my time putting money in it or can my car produce good hp???

ebay all the way. I bought a wrx turbo and intercooler for $200 (for both items) had a mechanic (friend of mine) fab a up pipe and down pipe (to work with borla headers for your car) and run oil and coolent lines. Have to tap the oil pan for oil line. I have cobb spicey cams. mild port and polish (did it while i was switching the cams) walbro fuel pump and a 100 shot (dry zex kit) The whole thing cost about 1500 installed. im going to race a evo 9 mr running 21psi tonight. cant wait to smoke him.

how much weight does the turbo and intercooler add? I am compairing the weight to the STI which is nearly 300lbs more then the RS. Which is why i asked. He could always get a WRX or STi short block and drop a turbo on that

I think you did the right thing, if the RS does it for you then who cares what STi owners say, SOME of them have elitist attitudes and sometimes it is impossible to avoid that. I say build your up and dust those same very guys who were talking sh*t. Good luck man!

If I were buying a new subie, an RS is what I'd get. I already know that I'm gonna mod the heck out of it, so why would I pay for a bunch of factory stuff that I'll just have to take off the car?
Now if they'd get around to releasing a spec-c here, now that's a different story!

yeah thats also one of the reasons i wanted the rs cause then when i roll up to an evo and or a sti and smoke them, i'll have done it with my own two hands!!! and to me its more rewarding, and half the fun of owning a tuner is....well...tuning it! ha imagine that!!! lol
i would like to buy a ecu chip but wondering if i should wait till after i put the turbo on or not? also were did you say i could get a turbo and intercooler for 200$ cause i've been lookin and every i see its about 500$or more, anyway me and my buddy (the educated one) are mechanics and were doing all the modin ourselves, so if you could tell me again....
could i buy an sti turbo or should i spend my money on a aftermarket one???
if you want to see pics of my rs check out myspace there in the blog

I don't think you wasted your money. I think you bought the right car, given your circumstances. However, I would say that turboing RS is a waste of money. My advice would be to mod your car's suspension, brakes ect. Just leave the engine alone. Then down the road, get same model year WRX and all your parts will cross over. That's my advice to you. Plus, nicely tuned RS is a perfect car to learn how to drive...
