Good Point
I would have to disagree that there are more "older" domestic cars then foreign cars. I see a lot of 10+ year old foreign cars, infact I drive 1994 Nissan Sentra (will get the subaru in June) and I see many similar year nissans and countless late '80s hondas. My friend drives a 1989 nissan maxima.
It is really hard to compare because there are so many cars on the road period, and the distibution by manufacturer can change depending on where you live. It also depends on the number of cars that were imported. Instead of what number of cars are on the road still, the percentage of cars that are still on the road would be a better indicator.
Another factor that can alter this is the cost of repairs. My understanding was that it used to be more expensive to get parts for an imported car then for a domestic car. (Again this may go back to before I was aware of such things). Also, it depends on the car itself. You see a lot of mustangs still on the road because people car about them and pay to have them repaired. I don't see nearly as many old Ford Escort Ponies. (That was my first car and it was awesome )
Regardless, I think that we are in agreement that American Made cars are not any worse then foreign cars. My original intention was to try and identify a reason for the stereotype.
Personally I think every car manufacturer has their own problems, and any car you get has the possibility of being a junker. My Uncle worked for a chevy dealership in the service department and swore he would never buy a chevy because of all the problems they had, but he owned a ford F150, Expedition, Mustang (2 of them) and a couple of Taurus SHOs (most of them at the same time) and they were constantly in the shop. They had four cars because one was always in getting something fixed. (They just bought a Lexus because it is a nicer toyota)
Anyway, as I said before, I think we are pretty much in agreement.

Around here there are a lot of older domestics than imports. I guess it all depends on where you live. For the record, I consistently see GC8-style Subarus ALL THE TIME. I also see A LOT of older Outbacks.
While on the subject of Subarus, Subarus are the #1 selling car in Colorado.

Take a look at the domestic cars from the '50s, '60s, and early '70s. You had beautiful cars to choose from like the Chevy Bel Air, Impala, Biscayne, Nova, Camaro, Chevelle, Pontiac LeMans/GTO, Firebird, Grand Prix, Oldsmobile F85, Cutlass, Buick GSX Stage 1, Special, Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth Cuda, Fury, Challenger, Charger, Road Runner, Duster, Dart, Coronet, etc. All of those cars oozed passion.
Today we're stuck with stale egg-shaped or boringly-styled cars with no style like Toyota Camry, Chrysler Sebring, Chevy Malibu, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Mitsubishi Galant, Buick LaCrosse, Subaru Forester and Baja, Toyota Avalon, Nissan Maxima, Nissan Altima, (everything) Honda, etc.
Car design just sucks today. The only styling department with any ***** whatsoever is Chrysler's, and even some of their designs are suspect (like the Charger). The Caliber? WTF? However, the 300C and the Viper look good. Audi? Don't even get me started on Audi. Their cars all look the same aside from the fact that some are longer than others.....

designers draw on paper first then if the company likes the dawnings they us auto cad to draw it on the computer, they don't just have some nobody tech in the office come up with all their car designs. i mean if you just think about that it doesn't make sence.
BUT either way however you believe they do it, all these design's are all gay and i feel like i should beat my head into a wall!!!!

While barking about Camaros, let's talk about the 1998-2002 models. Can anyone say, "CHRYSLER?"
