Exactly, my first car cost $3000 (89 Lebaron) and I didnt need anything else at the time... First time drivers dont need sports cars or brand spanken new cars to learn how to drive. They are just gonna either get beat on... (the cars I mean)

Car Info: MY04 aspen wrx wagon.
because they are fools...
In my opinion the average first time driver has no business behind the wheel of a car with the abilities of a wrx. But in this article they say impreza....I'm guessing they are referring to the TS wagon as much as the wrx...but then again I didn't bother to read the article.
There are exceptions of course.....some families raise their kids around cars. My little brother was racing cars at like 7 years old. I started driving dune buggies around the same age and what not....
But even then I would never give a kid a car with that much *****. Shoot I waiting til I was damn near 20 to get my lisense and my first car was an 88 ford ranger.
People will buy their kids these types of cars..mustang, lexus'....etc....and not talk to them at all and wonder why they get killed in accidents all the damn time.

Some of these suggestions are insane. Give a 16-year-old an XTerra? I've driven one of those for a few weeks and they are tippy, loose-handling cars with atrocious stopping distance and a big side profile that really catches the wind on the highway.
Actually, that goes for all three midsize SUVs on the list -- cars with that kind of size and high view angle are for advanced drivers who have developed that "sixth sense" about where the car is in relation to the road and other cars. Ever seen a teen parallel park?
BTW, "Imprezza" wasn't the only spelling error -- two points to the first person who spots the other VERY OBVIOUS spelling error in the article...

I agree
I love my wagon, i have a '90 Legacy with like a '96 engine in it, I have so much fun with it. I'm only 17 so I do not have that much experience, but I agree with starting out small then working your way up, as it is now I am learning advanced driving techniques fairly well and burning people even if they think they can out-drift me or something, it's all about the driver not the car.

hahah Can we stay on the topic of that the WRX Wagon was #3?!?!
Its funny how we started saying wow it should have been #1 to why are teens having high priced cars to blah blah blah....
I personally have a WRX Wagon and I love this car. As for the Civic being #1 its mainly because the Civic has always been in the spot light of the teens because its not as expensive to modify and you can personalize it the way you want because the parts are so cheap now. Plus thouse Honda Engines last a LONG *** TIME!
The thing that the WRX has over mos,t if not all those cars is that it is very versatile, fun to drive, realiable (so ive heard), fun to tune, and it can perform well in track or AutoX competitions. Well... thats why I got it.
