112 in 98 legacy
Many times has my 98 legacy hit 110 but today I was driving and I took my car to 112. At exactly 112mph the car makes a jerking motion. Its not a rattle or shaking, its more like a learning how to drive stick forward and back. I decreased my speed to 110 and it was fine, picked it back up and exactly 112 it began to jerk again. Any ideas what this is?

could be any bent suspension component i think, poorly or unbalanced tires, poor alignment..... my bet would be the wheels not being balanced.... you didnt use fix a flat did you?

most likely a govenor of some sort
in many vehicals the factory will install governors. These fun little items are set to cut of some part of the ingnition / feul system preventing the motor from reving past that point. In my 02 wrx (no computor work done) as soon as you hit the red line 7K the car retards itself to prevent any more R's. I think this may be your deal as well.

I think most "non-high performance" cars are governed to around 110-120 MPH. Hell, my Speedo only goes to 120, so you know the car sure won't (at least not stock.)
BTW, my uncle had a '99 GMC Sierra with a V8 and he said it was limited to 99 MPH. When he would hit 99, the engine would shut off, until he slowed a bit.

Yeah, my buddy had an explorer with the same sorta deal. Around 106 i think the car would sorta die out and make a weird vibration and never go any faster. Even though he wasnt on the rev limiter or anything, it still wouldnt go any faster. The action that the governer takes to limit your speed can cause a vibration. What sorta revs were you at when you hit 112?

I wasn't revving that high - ive rev'd much higher in lower gears. I was in 5th at around 6500 rpms. It certainly wasn't a bent suspension or wheel component. it was the engine. If it were a bent wheel component dont you think it would be weird that it only affected me at exactly 112 mph?
Let me specify on the motion my car made a little more - it wasnt a vibration of sorts it was a distinct jerking foward and back, a slow jerk. Thanks for the help, any more ideas?

Ive hit fuel cuttoff when riding in a modified 3000gt vr-4. It feels like your slamming back and forth into a brick wall, very disconcerting. I agree with mysubaruimp. If your getting this feeling then thats probably what it is.
