1/4 mile records
I thought this was supposed to be the "back to its roots" i-club? The same i-club that sold a shirt that said "anybody can go fast in a straight line"
Well I guess not.
Now this drag crap, "East coast shootout" blah blah drag titles that no body cares about, "records" for something that takes no skill. Is the Proven ***** Bragging forum coming back too?
(flame away drag kids if you think I care)
Well I guess not.

C'mon, drag racing is good fun and you know it. If it's not fun to you then thats your opinion and thats cool; But there are alot of people who think it's a blast and devote alot of time to their cars for this very reason. Anyway whats wrong with an Subaru Shootout? If you don't like seeing the most highly tuned and innovative subaru 's fly down the 1320 against each other then don't watch. Secondly while it might not take a generous amount of skill to simply drive down the track, it does take alot of skill to get a setup for your car that works, tuning etc. all takes skill.

it may not take much skill to drive in a straight line for 1320 feet... but it takes a hell of a lot of skill (and dedication) to do it faster than anybody else.
Personally, I prefer autocross to 1/4 mile... but that's only because I'm not rich like the rest of you and can't risk an exploded transmission
They're both a "You vs The Clock" kind of environment though, so I don't see why there has to be hate.

Personally I think drag racing is a step below oval racing (round and round and round and round they go!!). I prefer technical racing, but everyone has the right to enjoy whatever it is that they like. So I just don't join the conversationwhen people are discussing drag racing.

Auto-x is true driving skills?
Not really. Road/Track racing is true driving skills.
Using your methodology, auto-x is for the poor who cannot afford to road race, if drag racing is for the rich.
I like it all. Drag, auto-x and track racing. Too bad the car has to be setup completely different for each sergment, but hey, thats what it is all about. Total car tuning. Being a good driver is only half of the total skill I want to have. Being able to totally tune your own car for ANY condition of racing discipline is the other 50%.

Like I said. I think there is different skills involved with each type of racing. I think the key thing is experience. The more experience you have in whatever you do, the more skilled you'll become. Of course a little natural talent always helps.
Drag racing is about how much power you can make. It's more about being a skilled and tuner than a skilled driver.
I believe Auto-X is mostly driver skill, and sometimes having good memory. I've seen people with a lot of suspension and power upgrades get beat by someone driving the same car in near stock form.
Road racing (I've never raced, but I do run a lot of track days) is a combination of it all, but again, is mostly driver skill and experience. Power and suspension tuning does come more into play here than in Auto-X, for obvious reasons. I've been to track days where I've passed cars that SHOULD have been much faster than me on paper, but I think my experience, confidence, and yes, maybe a little skill, allowed me to run faster.
My $.02
