From a 2.5L engine? That's kinda low in gain if anything! The 400hp STi is irresistable, but still a rumor... wait and see!

why does the new engine need to make so much more power?! This just seems like subaru is trying to increase marketing and save money in production. Sounds like a good plan to me. Plus this gives them more room in the future to gradually up the power over the years.
I bet anybody who just had a ej20 swap is cringing right now.

I wondering if they can go to a 2.5 liter now because WRC rules are changing. They may not have to homologate the 2.0 liter anymore. I think if we see a 400hp STI you will see a mid level model impreza say 275 hp. Gives them more marketing options. This would also allow them a broader price range.

Regardless, they were able to homologate the Group A and WRC cars long before the WRX ever came to the states. So, in essence, they don't need to worry about the US for homologation rules. I don't think they played any part in this decision.
Its all about upping displacement, staying a head of competitors and marketing strategies.

Ouch
Man i love the idea of a 2.5 275 HP WRX. I would by it ASAP but if its going to look anything like some of the pic's i have seen then i will wait a year till they have a nice body kit to replace that front end.

I think the 230hp WRX might be more accurate. Subaru has on their US web site specs for the 2006 Forester. (there is a small graphic on the Forester page for the 06 model)
173hp 2.5 non-turbo
230hp 2.5 turbo
Now being that the current forester is rated 17hp less than the current WRX who knows. But the 230hp 2.5 turbo is atleast confirmed on the forester.
The 173hp N/A engine is a nice bump up (I own a 2.5TS impreza)
