06 Impreza Updates

July 25, 2005
Dear Subaru Retailer,

Subaru of America, Inc. is pleased to announce the pricing of the redesigned 2006 model year Impreza line. The new 2006 Impreza line features aggressive new styling, more horsepower, enhanced safety, and great value for your customers. All 2006 Impreza models have been restyled to reflect Subaru’s new brand identity. Central to the new design language are a three
section mesh-type grill (which hints at Subaru’s aircraft heritage) and boldly styled headlights with smoke-tinted lenses. All 2006 Impreza models receive the new Subaru Advanced Frontal Airbag system and a new Security System.

2.5 i
In order to create continuity within the Subaru Brand, 2.5 RS models will now be called 2.5 i. All Impreza 2.5 i Sedans and Wagons now feature i-Active Valve Lift System technology in the standard 2.5L engine which increases horsepower to 173 and torque to 166 lb-ft. Also standard on 2.5 i models is the addition of front seat head/chest side impact airbags, an aluminum-alloy hood, new 16-inch aluminum wheels, and cabin air filtration system. MSRP for both the 2.5 i
Sedan and Wagon with manual transmission is $18,295. Both 2.5 i Sedan and Wagon with automatic transmission have an MSRP of $19,095.

Outback Sport
2006 Outback Sport models get new standard front seat head/chest side impact airbags, an aluminum-alloy hood, 16-inch aluminum wheels, and cabin air filtration system. The seat upholstery of the Outback Sport is now available in Desert Beige or Graphite Gray fabric depending on the exterior color. Again Outback Sport will be offered with a Special Edition
package that includes:
• 260 Watt Audio System that includes
 6-disc CD changer
 Subwoofer
 6 Upgraded Speakers
• Auto-Dimming Interior Rear View Mirror with Compass
• Armrest Extension
• Rear Gate Spoiler
The retail value of the Outback Sport Special Addition package is $1,500, but we will offer a $1,000 discount printed on the Monroney Label. What a tremendous value to offer your customers! Outback Sport Special Edition with manual transmission has an MSRP of $19,695 and $20,495 with automatic transmission.

WRX
The 2006 WRX is no doubt the best WRX yet. Standard on every WRX is an upgraded 2.5L turbocharged and intercooled boxer engine with Active Valve Control System (AVCS) that produces 230 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque (up significantly from 217 lb-ft in the 2005 model). But 2006 Subaru Impreza
we didn’t stop there. Electronic Throttle Control (ETC), new and larger 17-inch 7-Spoke aluminum-alloy wheels with 215/45R17 all-season tires, 4-piston front / 2-piston rear brake calipers painted red with SUBARU in white lettering, and larger ventilated disc brakes for all four wheels - all standard. Security has also been improved with the addition of an engine immobilizer. Manual transmission WRX Wagon MSRP starts at $24,495 and manual transmission WRX Sedan starts at $24,995.

WRX Limited
New for 2006 are the WRX Limited Sedan and Wagon. The Limited models have all the features of the WRX plus new leather seating surfaces (Available in Desert Beige or Anthracite Black based depending on exterior color), a power moonroof, and All-Weather Package. WRX Limited Wagon with manual transmission carries an MSRP of $26,995 ($27,995 with automatic) and WRX Limited Sedan with manual transmission and rear spoiler has an MSRP of $27,495 ($28,495 with automatic).

WRX TR
We are very excited to announce a new addition to the Impreza WRX line, the WRX TR (Tuner Ready). The WRX TR Sedan offers all the performance and rally heritage of the WRX Sedan but at a more affordable price point. The WRX TR will be offered with manual transmission only and features a manual climate control system, an AM/FM/Single-Disc CD Stereo with 4- Speakers, and fog light insert covers (the fog lamp kit is optional). MSRP for the WRX TR Sedan is $23,995, the same MSRP as the original WRX launched back in 2001!

WRX STI
The awesome WRX STI has been further refined for 2006 and raises the bar even higher with several key enhancements: an updated Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) with the addition of a Mechanical Limited-Slip Center Differential and steering angle sensor, new roof vane spoiler, lower profile hood scoop, rear diffuser, and Daytime Running Lights. 2006 WRX STI will carry an MSRP of $32,995.

2006 Impreza pricing will be posted on Subarunet.com in “Vehicle Pricing Information” located under the “Vehicles” tab. Destination and delivery charges are $625 per unit (Alaska is $775).

Price lists for port installed accessories and accessory packages will also be posted on Subarunet.com.

We are very excited about all the improvements and refinements incorporated into every 2006 Impreza. And with all the enhancements to power, safety, and style, the new 2006 Impreza is a vital member of the strongest Subaru line-up ever!

Was thinking of getting the TR, but all the stuff that it doesn't come with (like the painted side mirrors) made me think if it is worth the $1K you save. What would your choice be after knowing what you won't be having?

It just depends on what you are looking to use it for.

If it's a daily driver get the normal WRX. The TR version will be rare and mostly for people trying to get the lowest price possible or actually making a race car out of it.

It'd be nice to have that much torque on 05's... but, nothing a little upgrade can't fix!

Does anyone have a clue if subaru is going to offer another buy-back program, as they did when the '05's were introduced?

true, having more torque at a lower rpm is better tuned for street driving.
but the weight of 3192 is a bit steep. I think the 05s had just had about 3000? in that case, the power to weight ratio might be worse on the 06. The additional torque makes up for that though. That's probably the reason for the bigger and better brakes.

sounds like the new models will have all the bells and wistles.

the tuner ready model seems kinda cheesy though (alittle too rice for me). i always thought the basic wrx was a great place to start modding? one thing i'm not clear about; are the regular wrx's gonna have rear wings at all or will you have to spend extra on the luxury model?
