I talked to my dealer today. He said they were only getting 3, maybe 4 for the entire year. They're a small dealer as far as Subys are concerned. Even though they are only getting a small number, they are selling them for MSRP. I'ts a good thing I'm #1 on the list. He said I would get first choice on color.

Just got on the list for Carlsen Subaru in Redwood City Ca.. But I might get lucky after some misfortune. How is this?
1.) I am #53 on the list at the dealer. Basically means that I won't be getting the car this year.
2.) After the initial wave of demands go down, then maybe I'm in prime position to buy? It all depends I guess, on how much the demand goes down. I'm assuming that there won't be a crazy rush as it is right now to gobble the car up.
3.) I might be one of the first on the list for the 2nd wave of Stis. If this is the case, I might be better off. Subaru might put in some slight enhancements and tweaks but the overall car is basically the same. Also all of the inital production snaffus and miscues might be ironed out by then if there are any. (wouldn't want a CV joint popping out on your new Sti, right? )
So in conclusion, maybe I'm not in such bad shape after all. Of course this might be coverup for disappointment that I didn't ask for the car sooner, but I'd rather not get the first one off the lot. Maybe one in the middle. *shrug*

Tim,
Try Prestige Imports (707) 483-1896. I think they're open till 8. I get the feeling I may be the only one one the list. I may be wrong. But it's worth a shot.

Whoever mentioned that Desi at Irvine Subaru said that there was no "deposit" being taken they were right. But there is a list at almost every dealership and those of you paying 500 bucks are paying to get onto the list, not putting a deposit for the STi....although im sure that 500 will go towards the purchase. Instead you are guaranteeing you will be the first few to own the STi and not be the poor chap who walks into the dealership in july paying 4k over msrp. At Irvine Subaru they have a list (in the cabinet right behind Desi's chair) and they are putting only 100 people on the list at only 100 bucks a pop. I peeked at the list while Tom my salesguy was putting me on the 88th spot about a month ago. #1 on Irvine's list was ProdriveUSA from what I remember followed by a few names and then some company called GTauto. Im surprised Renick took 1k deposit.....from what I understand the first 100 STis go to the people on the list (as long as they have the funds right away)...anim sure it will take about 2-3 months for all 100 to roll through at Irvine...if not more.

at least. They say early June..
