STI Knocking!!!
HI guys!!
I am always driving around with my SONY Xplod Sound system out loud! Just having Fun while Flooring the Gas Pedal..
But This Past Saturday, I was driving with the radio off and I heard Knocking of the engine .
I tried a couple of times. I roll a little bit, then I shifted to 3rd and floor it a little bit and I could hear the knock!
Its this normal ? The Factory ECU would Alter Ignition timing for safety and make the STI go slower ?
Any Comments?

another thing maybe there was some bad fuel, did you go to a different gas station than you usually do?

You guy's are forgeting that the STi does have a problem with knocking. There have been dozens of threads on this. Shiv said that it's because the STi ECU has a ****-poor way of learning where to add timing. The only way to fix it is to take it back to the dealer where they reflash it, or get an engine managment system and work out the bugs yourself. The fuel isn't your problem, like you said you're using 93. Take it to the dealer before you do too much damage.

I did use a different Gas Station this time. It was some Local Merchant Gas station. 93 Octane. i'll keep restricted to SHELL again.

yea dont use arco or some citco or some weird wanabe name, always use 76! if u must use chevron or shell, but 76 is the best for WRX's. by the way alex, r u sure u just didnt shift smoothly? cause it does take consistent skills to shift smoothly. im guessing u could have let go of the clutch a lil too fast or... too slowly and gassing at the wrong t ime. but if not... then yea use 76.

Super Quick Temporary Fix:
Turn up the volume.
If you want a comprehensive fix, wait for Vishnu's reflash or XEDE, UTEC, or any other aftermarket engine management system to come out and you might even gain some extra HP with the knocking fixed as well. Otherwise, the reflash from your local Subie dealership should take care of your problem(well, it's SUPPOSED to take care of it, that is).
