I had the liberty to drive a stock WRX in December that only has a ECU upgrade,.......biggest seat of pants difference I have ever felt in any car. As in no more boost just mapping.

That is the site I was going to direct you to as well.
The main thing you are missing is that PON is derived from RON and MON.
We use an average not just one number. Thus, being that US is an average, our numbers are very similar. It appears lower because it's an average number using high and low.
Sorry about Cali. In the Chicago area we can get 93 octane readily.
The octane discrepancy is far less than is thought when you realize how the numbers are derived.
Reread the info on that website.
Also, you state:
"I'd be a little suspicious about 292HP on a stock bottom end, especially on US gas. The JDM WRX makes 250 stock becuause they can get 95 octane gas (vs our 91-93 stuff)."
A RON of 95 is equivalent to 91 PON. If they can get 95RON then we can do as well with 91PON and even better with 93PON.
If 100 RON is used in Japan than we need around 95 PON (US). Thus, octane is very close in rating and not as high as it may initially appear. We see 93 mostly thus were slightly less compared to 100 RON and slightly more than 96 RON.
BTW, my name is not Bubba.
Thanks.

Cobb Tuning has had kits out for the WRX ever since they came out. they had a kit that boosted it to 280 and another that boosted it to 320. both kits very simple and relatively cheep. the first kit was just engine management like chip, pulleys, turbo timer, etc. and the second was the upgraded turbo, exhaust, hoses and such. go to www.cobbtunning.com they don't have the same packages as before but if you email them i am sure they can still hook you up with the same stuff for a deal or something.

Not to sound like a ***** (believe me it's not my intention to be an ***) but I'd guess that they pulled the kits because of reliablity (if anyone knows otherwise, please let me know) problems. A perfect example is this months Sport Compact Car. XS Engineering had built up a 350hp+ monster for their AWD test, but two days before the shoot and track event they bent a rod. The Scoobie EJ205 engine just can't take the same loads as the STi's EJ207, otherwise Subaru would just be using the EJ205 in the STi's.
Now I'm not saying a EJ205 can't take 300+ for a short time, especially if it's not driven hard and you live someplace cold. I'm just saying that it won't take it forever. If you want a 400HP monster WRX, then just invest in a better internals. A set of JE forged pistons and forged rods along with all the trimmings (valves, etc...).
When it all comes down to it, I'll take reliability over power any day of the week. It's hard to enjoy driving your car when it's sitting on a lift.
Cheers,

I believe they changed the kits due to the change in their relationship with APS. I don't think it was due to any reliability issues.

The EJ25 in the WRX STi is DOHC, not SOHC like the EJ25 in the 2.5 RS. You could get heads and cams and their accessories, and you'd have a base for an STi setup, maybe.
