A thread I read on the Toronto Subaru Club claims that only water can be used. They say that no chemicals should be used as to not to damage any of the parts under the hood over time.
At least that is what I got out of it. Here is a link to the info.

They also opened up the official Canadian STI site it also confirms some of the differences between the STi we get and the US version.

Oh if you read all the specs in the power it says.
"pulls you form a standing stop to 60mph in well under 5 seconds"
sweet first ive heard of subaru stating any kind of real performance numbers.

There has to be some kind of antifreeze in the water, to prevent any damage in freezing conditions.

Well lets see the tank for the sprayer is in the trunk, lines need to run to the front of the car, how do you drain the complete system and leave no water to freeze and damage the system. I have had several cars with water injection & they all had some kind of antifreeze for winter months. Also this leaves all types of warranty problems if Subaru does not use some type of antifreeze.
