Alternative to STI ?
If the STI didn't exist, and you were looking to buy a NEW car in the same price range over the next TWO years, what would you buy?
Price Assumptions:
1: RX-8 = 27k
2: EVO = 29k
3: 350Z = 34k
4: Cobra = 35k
5: Elise = 37k*
* (My best guess, assumes current Elise 111s spec with 156 bhp and a curb weight of 1773lbs)

Hard decision for me between the 350Z and the WRX, but when I saw the STi specs it was a no-brainer. Had to have one. I drove the Z and wasnt impressed at all. It was fun, but wasnt what I wanted for that sort of money.

Ever since I started rallycrossing I'm all about AWD high-performance on dirt/gravel/snow. There's only one car on that list that meets my criteria.

well Id take the 350 Track (or the G35 coupe anyways...) The Sti is awesome looking and perfmance is great...the EVO is just ugly...Its the little things, like the hood, new bumper, interior and taillamps...changable yes, but not as sexy as the 350Z or new STI
The RX-8 will flop, Id probably die in a crash with the Lotus and my insurance would be nuts
The Cobra is hot, but cheap interior too raw without the sophistication in suspention etc... The Mach1 looks nice though

exactly what i was gonna say..
RX 8 is ugly in a way.. too much of a S 2000 look alike.
and 150 ish lb/ft? @ 7800 rpm? correct me pls it's nothing but a
high whiner..
Elise looks like an alien, it's koo but i don't wanna wait.
plus w/ me sitting in it i won't be super light weight anymore
lol. :P

The Elise all the way. It looks badass and with the integra type r engine swap it will kill everything else on that list above.

I was actually having a harder time deciding which car to buy before Subaru announced the 2.5l engine in the Sti. After that? It was all too easy.

There is a company that converts the Elise and its variations to an ITR-powered car. It is not a factory option from Lotus.

34k?????
I think the STI sounds like it has incredible performance but to pay much more than 32K seems pretty outrageous.
If I'm going to spend 34K or more on a performance car this is what I'd be getting:
http://www.dupontregistry.com/search...83&sessionkey={8E82762A-2B89-4C75-9DEB-495AA007B7AB}
1995 993 Carrera 4
Having the quickest or best performing car is great if you are a race car driver, but some cars just have something much deeper than that.
