GETRAGS
GETRAGS are rarely rebuilt.
RARELY.
Toyota for instance, does not rebuild the getrag in the supra, and on top of that, most TOYOTA (like MOST, over 80%) dont have the tools to work on a Getrag.
I know of one service in the united states that actually REBUILDS getrags, and mostly done for new synchros, nothing else.
A new getrag, for the supra costs $7500. etc. etc etc.
Getrags is the tranny you want! My experience alone w/ my MKIV supra (spd, twin-turbo, getrag!) has made me a faithfull believer in GETRAG transmissions. You will find getrags in the 3000gt, skyline, M3, M5, the list continues.
The supra's stock getrag can handle over 1200hp.... pretty ****ing bullet-proof imo.

we are researching the Stock Subaru STi 6 mt for now..
just to see will it handle more than 350 hp as claimed "can't "by that article...
found some *** FAQs on Prova's site
translates into Subaru's MT are known as made of "glass"
lmao!!! but after 96 they had a new one and reliability has been increased substantially..
Prova offers a clutch kit,, wont' say what tranny they used...

Did they specify which transmission they were talking about?

but since we dont' know what torque is .. i actually meant torque that is associated "or whatever :P" w/ the 350 hp.
no, they didn't say what specific tranny was "glass"
but was relating to GC s
from my understanding the STi we are getting are not Gerags..
is that correct? if they are.. then i ll just whip myself for wasting so much time..

I'd love to see a sequential semi-auto hooked up to that H6!! If VW can make DSG tranny, why not Subaru?

Back to my wish list... has anyone heard anything on Subaru using semi-auto sequential gearbox in STi? it seems to be the latest trend.

Yes they have used semi-auto sequential gearbox in an advanced way. They use it in they Rally prototype last year and now in the 2004 WRC car. As far as publicly marketing it... no they havent.
BTW the 6mt can withstand over 350hp and 350 torque but it cant due it enough to label it as "Reliable". The new 6mt was used int eh hyper yellow STI (Bozz i think) that had approx. 540 hp but they didnt state how many 6mt's they broke in the process or how long one 6mt lasted.

Prodrive manumatic
As another alternate, Car and Drive talked about Prodrive having built a computer controlled (like the M3's SMG, or Ferrari's F1 option for the 360) tranny from the ground up... for street use. The article further goes on to say that since it was clean sheet design, they did away with such niceties as syncros and whatnot, given that the computer brain (obviously) didn't need then.
So with that said, and given Prodrive's long relationship with Fuji's wonderboys, does anyone here think I might be able to live out my Tommi Makkinen fantasy (not like that)?
Cheers,
-e2
