Subaru upgraded speakers and sub/amp
Now, I'm aware that getting aftermarket stereo components would be much better than getting the upgraded stereo stuff from the factory. However, I'm not willing to put in the time and money on heavy stereo changes. The only thing I'm willing to change out right now is the head unit, and that is only because I want to be able to play MP3s on CD.
For someone who doesn't plan to do any aftermarket stereo upgrades, it it worth getting the upgraded Suburu stereo system? I know it's not going to be the same as a $1000+ speaker/amp/sub upgrade, but is it at least a little better than the standard system to make the $2-300 worth it?

a 2003 toyota corrola with premium stereo option, sounds better than the rex setup. Mine acctually broke after one year and I had to have it serviced. the factory 6" sub is enclosed on an enclosure no bigger than itself and sounds like a midget knocking on the floor pan from below. the highs are nice but that is it my friend

I think it depends on how much you'll pay for the upgrade. A buddy of mine got his at cost when ordering is 04 WRX wagon and he had similar goals such as yours. The only difference is that he's looking into replacing the HU unit with one of the new removable hard drive units so that he can play his mp3 and wav collection that's swappable with his computer. I hate taking the time to burn mp3s to CDs for playing so I'm seriously looking into the hard drive systems as well. Good luck

Consider taking the $250 you would spend on the upgraded stero and drop it on replacing your speakers. It won't cost you an arm and a leg but it will sound FAR better then the stock upgraded system for the same cost. Add in an aftermarket HU and it'll be that much better with the added power. It doesn't sound like your a real bass head so consider going without the subs (aftermarket or worse 6in sub in the upgrade package) and just geting some nice speakers. I think you'd be happier with it in the long run.
