hi,

does anyone out there know how much power the stock headunit in a 05 sti puts out?

essentially, i'd like to know if it can run component speakers, such as the infinity kappa 6.5's with the stock HU. i'd like to avoid installing an amp thats why. :P

otherwise i'll get some 2 way co-axis...

with components off the stock HU it's not going to sound as good as it really should, but it will be OK. my guess is stock is maybe 10~20/ch at most. i also wanted to go that route but instead went with a new deck for my comps.

 

i ended up getting some 6.5 and 5.25 inch alpine type-s co-ax speakers.
decided on these because they have 92dB sensitivity and i wanted something that would fit the "thin" adapters.

they sound much better than stock (not hard to do) but when i crank up the volume to 40, which is max, it isnt that loud. as comparison, in my old civic i had a kenwood head unit with 25w max pushing 6.5in boston acoustics that were much louder. so this is telling me the rms for the stock stereo is probably less than 10w...
