Speaker/amp/wiring question
I just bought a phoenix gold xenon x100.4 100 watts per channel amp and infinity kappa 2 way 60.5CS 6.5 inch components for the front and 6.5 inch kappa 65.3i coaxles for the back. They're on their way being shipped, but I want to be able to put these things in asap after i get them, so i was hoping to order the wiring and stuff before hand. I'm not the most knowledgable person when it comes to car audio, so could anybody tell me exactly what i need to order? THANKS!

Assuming you have the stock HU
1. wiring diagram for radio (ravensblade.com)
2. amp kit
3. speaker wire
4. RCA's
5. wire connectors
6. LOC's
7. good set of wire cutters/strippers
8. zip ties
9. duct tape (get the good stuff, 3M)
10. beer

LOC = Line Out Converter
It converts the low level speaker inputs to high level RCA's. You use them in conjunction with the stock HU so you can hook up an amp.

You need one set of RCA wires per amp. Your head unit should have at least 2 RCA inputs. You need one set of RCA wires for each amp, and each set of wires goes to one of the inputs on the HU. There should be no need for a Y connector. Then you just need plain speaker wire that goes from the amps to the respective speakers. Make sense?

did you get those speakers installed yet?
I am super curious if KAPPAs fit in the front because the magnets are giant on those things!
I have not yet replaced the speakers, but wired an AMP to the trunk for a 12" Infinity 1230w.

you're problem is that you only have a 4 channel amp.
but to optimize your system, you need a 5 channel one.
if i were you, ditch the rear speaker idea. unless you carry lots of passengers in the rear seats almost 100% of the time, the rear speakers tend to screw up the image for the fronts. people will say, "it's for a rear fill"...
i say, it will just drag the image back there.
face it, in the car stereo world, 2 channel is still the king. unless more and more multichannel software (sure there's DVD-audio and SACD but have you seen the players become the norm rather than the exception?), stereo is still the way to go...

First of all, no I haven't installed this stuff yet. I decided that im going to use some of that spray deading silicone stuff (not the foam) and do my whole car. Hopefully that will reduce road noise, eliminate most rattles, and make the music sound better all in one. I'm also going to replace the crappy carpet and put in new seats. However, there are a number of people who have put the kappas in our cars. I sort of assumed they wouldn't fit until i talked to some people. THe kappas have a depth of 2 3/16 or something like that and about the deepest you can go with our cars is 2.5 from what I hear. I think some people had to take of some rubber thing off the back of the speaker to keep it from hitting the window, but i might be thinking of a different speaker. I imagine I'll probably be putting all that stuff in in about a month or so though. As for what ldivinag said about needing a 5 channel amp....why would I need that??? Also, you said something about dvd players...well I also have a dvd player I'm going to install.
