My car is REALLY noisy. My parents have a volvo, and every time I drive it it is so amazingly quite, just making my car feel worse. I looked online, and dynamat seems to be the best but is so expensive. How does cheap stuff work? Opinions greatly appreciated. I want to cover the whole car for under 100 and I want it to be very quite. If you've soundproofed your car please tell me what you used and how satisfied you are, how easy it was to work with, the cost, and where you got it. Thank you

soundproofing your car is going to be pretty expensive and time consuming. i used just over 4 and a half bulk (36 square feet)boxes of Dynamat Xtreme to do my floor, trunk and door panels. that ran me about $450 and took about 3 days of work. i did it all myself and didnt even think about taking it to a shop b/c the labor to remove my interior and then reinstall it after the dynamatt would be crazy. you will proabbly get the most noise reduction by doing your door panels and trunk. i did the floor just for extra. there are other alternatives to Dynamatt like brown bread and ramat. search the forum for sound damping and you should get some hits on the subject.

I don't mind it taking a long time at all. I love working on my car, but I don't want to spend much more than 100 to get an audi-like noiselevel!

I was exaggerating/joking about the audi-like sound, I just want it significantly quiter. Anyway another question. About how much sound deadener would I need to cover the whole car (floor, firewall, doors, sides)? Thanx

i wouldnt say "rip" everything out, but just take the interior out piece by piece. if you decide to start pulling interior panels, make sure to remember where all the fasteners go. there are about 4 or 5 different types of fasteners that hold different panels and pieces of carpet in place. i make the mistake of jsut putting everything in one bag and when it came time to reinstall evertything i didnt know where everything went. just get a bunch of little sandwich bags and label them. if you have any questions about how to do certian things just PM me.

The floor is where youll pickup most of the road noise and sounds. Id do it extra super numba one down there

i didnt mean rip out literally, just a quick way to say take everything out nice lol, hrmm might give this a try this weekend? how did u like the results as far as noise level

Does anyone have experience with Fatmat? Sounds like its pretty awesome, 100 for 100 sq.ft. but I also read someone saying its slow shipping/low quality. Any feedback would be great. Thanx.


By the way, its gotta be possible to make audi like sound. It may be too hard to be worth it and I'm not gonna try but, its got to be doiable for a lot less than buying an audi.

Thats gonna be one heavy car if your doing the entire thing. Dampening material is not lightweight.

i notice some new cars have like a board on the trunk lid, does a legacy have on it that we could use?

Kevin, (wrxer) did some sound dampening on his doors. The speakers dont rattle but it didnt really do anything to reduce engine or road noise.
