Series + Parallel Config -- is it possible?

Is this even possible:
Two sub woofers both with dual voice coils. The voice coils are wired in series, the two subs themselves are wiered in paralell. So, if the voice coils are 2ohms each, the total load from the amp would be 2 ohms correct? Would this work and/or is it recommended?

Here's a little illustration depecting the above:

On a dvc sub the coils are normally 4ohms each, there for if you wire them in series the subs are 8ohms a piece. If you put them in parrallel, the amp would see a 4 ohm load. But If you wire the coils in parrallel you will have a 2ohm sub. Hope this helps

If each coil is truly 2 ohms than you would be correct. But all the speakers I've seen are 4 ohms per coil.
