Question Satellite Radio Installs???

Hi,

I have a hunch that I'll be recieving a satellite radio for X-Mas, but it is the portable unit that can detach and be carried into the house. Does anyone have any pics / tutorials on how they installed their unit? It will be sirius if there are any differences... Thanks in advance.

I installed mine my self. I hardwired the power supply to the radio instead of using the cigarette lighter. I also mounted it underneath the radio using an xm accessory bracket instead of the temporary or adhesive bracket that comes with the sirius unit.

What all would be involved in installing a Satellite Radio system to the stock HU?

either FM modulator or a tape cassette adaptor since the stock head doesnt have any aux inputs...

wouldnt the FM modulator greatly reduce the quality of the satellite signal?

Check out my install. I took the home stereo adapter and modified the antenna plug a bit. Then I removed the clock and stuck on top with double-sided tape. Looks slick and no wies seen. It is all hardwired with the modulator adapter.

not the sat signal, but just regular audio (analog) going through the dock unit to the head unit...

How do you handle installing the antanae? I am under the impression there is a cord going from ant. to unit, Do you have to make a hole somewhere to put the wire through?

Good idea to go with Sirius santino. I am getting my sirius equipment as well for chrsitmas, my deck is sirius ready. What else will i need other than an antanea, if anything?

my antennas (xm and sirius) are on the trunk lid, in front of the spoiler...

no problems there. i run the antenna cord through the rear seat along the floor and up to the front.

The install pic looks pretty slick, but I like things to be in finger's touch.... I'm going to fiddle with a couple different configurations, but I like the ideas thrown around. I may try the mount that attaches to the seat bolt... I will also post an install tutorial once complete (of course, IF I get the unit ;-)

usually, the units have a wireless remote. well at least my sirius audiovox PnP gen 2 unit did. my xm unit is a hideaway tuner chassis that is controlled by sony's old school unilink bus system...

I read about the remote, and discussed it with a friend, just sounds funny/awkward to me to use a remote control in the car for the radio.... I'll fiddle with it in a few weeks and once installed, post the results here. Thanks again!

I think itd be cool to put this:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-4bEm0u6...0&I=613KTCH2A1
in the oem gauge pack housing.

Otherwise, the XM commander is small enough to stick on the area next to the cup holder...wouldnt look perfect there, but it would look ok.

coolest remote is the sony joystick ones... so intuitive, after you learn it...

i've had the wireless ones too. they are the weird feeling one. if you have to reach to get the remote, you can touch the head unit already... lol...
