I have a '05 WRX Wagon with Manual Transmission. I purchased a car alarm\remote starter from a company called SkyTec (http://www.scytek.net/). Works great.
I've also heard about DEI products, but I have no experience with them.

You just have to leave the car in neutral if you're going to remote start . . . but I don't see the point of remote start, because you have to be like within 50 - 75 ft to use it.

Most shops won't install remote start on an MT due to liability issues, but you can either do it yourself or enlist the help of someone willing to do it privately. The Subaru MTs have a neutral switch that senses whether or not the trans is in neutral, so this can be used as a safety switch for the remote start function.

I have one on my car.
Its not really an issue since I have a turbo timer and the car is always out of gear when I leave it b/c of that.
I have a crimestopper and the range is ~ 1000 feet for it, not 50-75 feet.

I have an alarm/starter installed. The company is DesignTech. It has a great feature for Manual vehicles (maybe the others have this too). When I shut my car off and remove the key, the car stays running (like a turbo timer). It will stay running until I open the door and get out and reclose the door. After the door closes, the car shuts off. Then I can remote start up to 1000 ft. The safety feature goes like this.....If I open ANY door on the car after I shut it off, the car will not remote start because the alarm thinks that I might have gotten in the car and accidentely put it into gear. So I don't have to worry about remote starting it and the car driving away. The alarm that I have also has a built in turbo timer too, not that our cars need it.

manual trans. remote start
Peripheral also makes a neutral safety interface if you already have an alarm/rem. start that doesn't have one built in. The part # is NSS. It functions basically the same as the one described above, it ties into the emergency brake wire and the door pins. It won't work until the e-break is in the up position, and will be disabled if you open a door b4 remote starting it.

compustar alarm systems have a manual transmission feature for their remote start capable alarm systems. Im currently running it in my car.
(Whats the point of remote start? Try getting up on a cold *** winter day, hitting the remote start while youre still warm in bed, hop in the shower, get dressed and by the time you get out there, the car's nice and warm ready for you to drive off. All this in less than 15mins..)
