Recommendations on five channel amps?
I'm thinking about driving two sets of Focal 136K 5.25"s (70w/140w) and one Eclipse Aluminum 10" sub (500w/1000w) off one five-channel amp. My HU is an Eclipse CD8051 which has 8V pre-outs. Car is an '04 WRX Sedan.
Is this possible?
Is it reasonable?
Is it rational?!
Will I be settling for a lesser quality setup just for simplicity sake?
All replies are of course appreciated.

You should have no problem with that, as long as you don't buy a cheap amp. I have a Kicker 5 channel, and I used to have an infinity that I never hand a problem with. You could have a problem finding an amp that will give you the sub woofer power you're looking for.

It's really hard to find a powerful 5 channel amp.
I found a couple of them you can check out
Phoenix gold OCTANE_R 9.0:5
• 5 channel power amplifier
• 12dB HP/LP variable crossovers
• Seperate front/rear/sub inputs
• Low Pass Level port (LPL)
• Dimensions: 19.75L x 10.875W x 2.25H
front/rear
125W x 4 (4 ohm stereo)
subwoofer
400W x 1(2 ohm bridged)
http://www.phoenixgold.com/octane_r2/amplifiers.asp
The 125 w rms for the comps will be to excessive but will work.
I think you will be better off with one 4 channel amp for the components & 1 mono or 2 channel amp for the sub.
You can also check out the ADS PH 30.2 $849
watts/ channel 4 ohm: 75 x 6
watts/ channel 2 ohm: 110 x 4 + 150 x 2
watts/ bridged 4 ohm: 220 x 2 + 300 x 1
THD: 0.10%
S/N ratio: >90dB
Bandwidth: 10-30kHz
Damping factor: >150
Input sensitivity: 100mV to 10V
Crossover frequency/ slope: 45-5kHz/ 12dB
Dimensions: 13" x 2" x 19 5/8"
Another good amp is the Precision Power PCX-5800 $550
Channel: 5/sub
4 ohm: 50/200
2 ohm: 100/400
Bridged: 200/400
Damping: >500

oh staticzero, forgot about the eclipse PA5532
50w x 4, 200 x 1
Also get the Eclipse 37601 balanced line adaper so you can take full advantage of the signal clarity of your CD8053 HU.
I think this a good setup if you want all eclipse in your system.
Only thing is those focal K speakers must get more power to sound really good. I have an 165V2 right now running them 85 w rms each.

I am extremely happy with my Helix HXA500QMKII amp. It puts out a lot more than it's official ratings:

I bought my amp from the place that installed my stereo gear. I'm sure there are a few places on-line to buy that amp also.
I'm running Focal 130K 5.1/4" speakers up front and Infinity Kappa 4" for rear fill. Image Dynamics 10" sub in the spare tire.

I don't think you'll find a 5-channel with enough power to really make the sub happy......and if you do it will probably cost more than it should. I'd say get a good 4 channel and a good mono amp (500w+)......I'd say xtant, RF power series, probably JL, some phoenix gold, boston acoustics, and a few others. I'm not really a fan of Kicker amps but you could probably get away with one for the sub.....they lack some SQ when driving decent or better separates....as do RF.
I've got an xtant6.1 and 1.1i's right now that are rock solid and very well controlled....I've ran rockford, JL, and a few other very good amps but I think I may now be an xtant fan for life

Nice Sub
It looks like you cut a square in the spare tire lid/hatch. How necesary do you think this is ? I am thinking of a sub setup like yours but am hesitant to start hacking stuff up.
How would it sound without punching a hole ?

At the very least I would say you could leave the carpeting untouched and cut the hole only in the fiberboard underneath it.

IMO
I have never been a big fan on one amp to do many things. I have built many systems and have found that getting seperate amps 2handle different rolls have been more efficient, eaisier to tune, and have given me more options for placement. I use a powered crossover that seperates all the frequencies at the the box. This allows for way more adjustment depending on the particular job of the speaker. With a four channel x-over I can run smaller dedicated amps and also place them in less obvious locations. I don't like to have my system take up any room in the car and this install allows me to hide most of the components.

if you go with the right amps SQ will be much better and your system will be much more efficient than running a single amp. You also will have better control over tuning. Class D amps are usually a good choice to power your sub.

JL or Pheonix Gold.
But I would suggest going with a nice 4 channel amp and a mono amp....much cleaner sound and much more productive power for the sub.
I love the tandem of say a 300/4 by JL Audio and a 500/1 from JL.
If you are power hungry and run huge subs get the 1000/1...but that thing is plain huge.
