they have great features and great sound. I love clarion decks...the high end ones. But here is the major catch. They are very very sketchy with their workmanship. They have a really bad habit of breaking for random reason and random things going out.
So it's kind of an at your own risk kind of deal.
I never recommend them for that reason. I say alpine first then pioneer premier next.
If you have a local shop you feel comfortable dealing with then you might run with it but I'd never buy one online. They just aren't dependable enough.
I've run 4/5 alpines....never one problem....not one.
My clarion was solid as a rock..it was old and simple and had great sound. One of the early full face flip down..non motorized..loved it. I had it in two cars. I totalled one of them and the thing didn't even skip...it broke I gave it to my buddy. He had it fixed for $40...bad ribbon....been working like a champ ever since...until a couple weeks ago...ribbon got pinched again.....
So it's give or take with them....getting a great one is about as likely as getting a really crappy one..maybe slightly less likely actually.
but shoot....their new touch screen one has me looking at them again and it's an easier install into my dash pod than the alpine 7987...
but me....equals HUGE alpine fan.
get a new line alpine....or get like a 9815 or something...i had one..great.

Yes, go alpine or pioneer if you can. They both make great decks. The 9815 is a good deck and could be found for about 300 if you look hard enough. They have newer models out, but the 9815 is a great deck. Good luck.

i like alpine, but everyone i know has them(for good reason) i just want a deck that is good and that noone really has. i would really love to have a denon deck, but can't really justify shelling out the 3 grand

if you are going for asthetics then why not buy a Sony. I mean some of those wack *** designs looks cool. if you want to go function over gayness then go with a Pioneer. If you have a subwoofer then you have to go with pioneer unless you plan on spending more money on an external equalizer. nuf said
