My New Sub Box!!

Hey wassup guys I’m finally done and I thought I would post some pics:

Here's my trunk all taped up:

Here's the first layer of glass on... I was really scared it would soak through so I took a pic haha:

Now here it is finished:

And again:

Sorry I didn't take any intermediate pics. The whole thing took about 30 hours, but I think it was worth it… it sounds great and takes up hardly any trunk space.

That box looks great. What size sub is that? How are you keeping the box from moving around?

I resined in some rope in the back and then attached that to the side of the car behind the trunk linner.
Its the MM124 sub, 12' 500 Watt RMS. Sounds pretty sweet, it make very crips bass in all the lower frequencies, aka: it doesn't just pound, which is what i wanted. Also it only requires .9 cubic feet of space for the box. I think this box came out to be about 1 cubic foot.

looks great! what were the intermediate steps after you contoured the glass to the side of the trunk?

Ok lets see
-I took that layer out of the trunk with the tape still on and added another layer of glass on the inside to stiffen it up. (after only one layer it quite flimzy, which makes it easier to take it out of the trunk)
-I then made a ring for the speaker and then an outer ring so the speaker is inset. I like this look but you u don't want it its optional. It also kills a little bit of volume. I actually didn't make rings like most do i left much of the board there and just cut holes out because i wanted a flat face.
-I then used hot melt glue to place the speaker rings where i wanted them and supported them will small strips of MDF. I also used the stips to create a skelleton of the shape i wanted.
-I streached fabric over that and attached it with hot melt glue.
-Then u just resin up the fabric and apply the fiber glass.
- I used thick fabric so after that was dry I applyed resin on the inside of the box. This way you only need only layer of fiber glass and u still get a super hard box.
-Then i did another layer of glass on the back and i poured resin inside the box all along the edges to seal them up very well
-I also put the speaker wire in before doin the front of the box so that i didn't have to deal with a terminal box, but some ppl like terminal boxes instead.

hope that helps

Did you just leave those MDF strips in after the box was done or did you remove them? Do they rattle inside the box at all?

I took some out, but some were left in. The resin melts the hotmelt glue so some of them just fell off after i started to fiber glass. For some this is a problem, but i used very think cloth so it didn't soak through that much after one coat... which is why i also did a coat inside. The pieces that i didn't take out were then resined in from the inside so they don't rattle at all.

Are you planing on making one urself?
