Mounting LCD for DVD on SunVisor - Legal?
Hey gadget gurus
Does anyone know if it's legal to mount a LCD on the passenger sunvisor as long as it's not within the sight of the driver? I need some advise if possible on the legal aspects and don't want to deal w/ the cops or tint my windows.
I'm also thinking of getting a mobile DVD player or portable DVD player.
Any suggestions?
I have a Subaru WRX sedan so that the passenger sunvisor seems like the only place where I could best mount one for all passengers, unless I replace the entire stock stereo setup.
Please advise. Thanks!!

ha ha... good luck...
i dont think that will fly, in kalifornia. if they want you bad enough, the front pass visor will be found to be within the driver's view.
you can always make it so it shows engine data with a flip of a switch...

or pay the 10 buck fix it (that is all you'll get right?) or get a cheap nav system! for the most part I don't think they care since lots of cars have them in the center council, like where the radio is. Just my opinion. GL

otherwise, you might be in for a surprise when you are watching CHOCOLATE FOAM the next time...

legality
The laws are totally different from state to state, and I have found that a lot of cops in my area don't know if it's illegal or not. They just say that as long as it doesn't cause a problem with someone's driving they're not going to waste their time on it. Kinda like cellphones, if you're allowing it to interfere with your driving, they will pull you over and ticket you. You're best bet would be to call the CHP and ask them, they're usually pretty helpful about things like that.

In California it is illegal to have a video screen in view of the driver unless it is a driving aid (Like a navigation system or ac controls or info center, etc) and California is starting to crack down state wide. I sell them for a living so I come across this question daily. It is illegal in Kalifornia and California and is a moving violation with points on your record if cought. But hey, you have to get cought.

i have an Eclipse in dash DVD/LCD unit...i don't dare to have any motion video playing while i drive, even if the screen is pivoted to the passenger side. it's just not worth the risk.
however, on dates, the screen is pimp and the possibilites are endless.
